Gong Jun Deflects Accusations of Being Pro-Japanese

After being hit by pro-Japanese accusations, Word of Honor <山河令> actor Zhang Zhehan (張哲瀚) was blacklisted by all Chinese streaming platforms and social media, which essentially destroyed his career. One month after the controversy, similar accusations surfaced against his co-star Gong Jun (龔俊).

Netizens re-discovered a vlog of Gong Jun (龔俊) in Japan, and accused him of visiting the Kyoto Ryozen Gokoku Shrine, which was built to commemorate Japanese soldiers who had participated in World War II. Gong Jun was standing in front of the shrine’s sign dressed leisurely while enjoying his ice cream. Many questioned why the actor would choose to eat his ice cream at this location.

As the allegations brought an uproar, Gong Jun immediately deflected the rumors that he is pro-Japanese. The actor’s studio issued a statement that Gong Jun was buying ice cream from a popular shopping street near the Kiyomizu-dera Temple. As for the sign behind him, it was just a post, and he was actually a good distance away from the Kyoto Ryozen Gokoku shrine location. The studio even posted a map of his vacation itinerary to prove this.

Given his love for China, the actor stated that he “has never entered” the controversial shrine and “would never do so in the future either.”

To stop the ongoing rumors, Gong Jun already asked his legal team to gather evidence and hold those making accusations accountable.
