John Woo’s 1997 Film “Face/Off” is Getting a Reboot

Yesterday, Paramount announced that they would be remaking Hong Kong director John Woo’s (吳宇森) 1997 Hollywood action thriller Face/Off <奪面雙雄>. 22 Jump Street screenwriter Oren Uziel will pen the script, but it is unsure if John will direct the film.

Face/Off is the third Hollywood project directed by John after Hard Target <終極標靶> and Broken Arrow <斷箭行動>. It was co-starred by Hollywood’s biggest actors at the time: Nicholas Cage and John Travolta. Golden Globe-award winning movie star Michael Douglas produced the film, which was very popular when it was released. The film raked in US$245 million worldwide.

Coincidentally, John recently announced another one of his representative works The Killer <喋血雙雄> would be remade – into an American version. Actress Lupita Nyong’o will take on the role of the main female character, Jennie, Chow Yun Fat‘s (周潤發) romantic killer in the original movie.
