Karena Ng Lied About Family Background?
As the public is still struggling to accept Raymond Lam (林峯) and Karena Ng’s (吳千語) 14-year age gap, the vast difference between their family backgrounds is also under scrutiny. Karena had claimed that her father opened a restaurant in Macau. However, it has been revealed that behind the façade, Karena comes from a mediocre family background and has been lying about her family so that she can mix with men from the elite circle.
Earlier media reports revealed that Karena’s father is actually a hawker selling roast pork in the Sha Kok estate in Sha Tin and Karena’s family had lived in a public housing estate. Since young, her mother placed high hopes on her to get them out of the public housing estate. However, Karena did not fare well in her studies. After she graduated from Form 5 in high school, she only managed to get into Hong Kong University’s School of Professional and Continuing Education (HKU SPACE) for her Associate Degree. As a teenager, Karena was already very attractive and she was already toting a Louis Vuitton bag to school.
Because of her sharp Eurasian features, Karena joined modeling to climb up the social ladder. While filming a commercial, she was discovered by film producer Raymond Wong (黃百鳴) who cast her in a leading role for her debut movie, Magic to Win <開心魔法>. Shortly after entering the entertainment industry, Karena spent her time partying with the high society. She was popular among the wealthy second-generation heirs, and was rumored with Howard Lam (林孝信) and former Miss Hong Kong Ellen Wong’s (王愛倫) son, Derek Lim. Karena and Derek were often photographed hanging around nightclub hot spots, Dragon-i and Volar.
After she met Raymond after filming Love is…Pyjamas <男人如衣服>, Karena dumped Derek for the richer Raymond. To make Raymond happy, Karena allegedly curbed her partying ways and has since become a demure and affectionate girlfriend.

Appearing at a promotional event for Vivienne Westwood yesterday, Karena was confronted about reports that she had lied that her father had a restaurant in Macau and was instead a hawker who chopped roast pork for a living. At first, Karena did not directly respond, “My parents have a good life in Australia; fortunately they did not see these reports.” Asked if her father had chopped roast pork, Karena denied and said, “I have already accepted many publications’ interviews. Honest job being a hawker. In the city where I lived previously, there are hawkers who actually are very wealthy. Driving around in BMWs & Mercedes (where the cars are famous for being exorbitantly expensive) and wearing Rolex watches. It’s not just one hawker, a lot of them are like that. My friend’s dad owns a noodle stall and he is one of such hawkers.
I know of graduates who leave their high paying banking jobs to open up a hawker stall.
I don’t know why the media has to paint a hawker job to be that lowly & some people think that kids of hawkers aren’t good enough for others.

i personally don’t care if she comes from a mediocre background, but lying about it gives me a negative impression of her. Also, if she clings on rich men so she can give her parents a better life, add more to her negative image, and much less respect for her parents for pimping her out. That’s like selling her body and is damn proud!!! Ray is a grown man and if he’s blind and stupid to support a gold digger and her family, who cares, his life, his money.

Having a roast pork chopping father is not a problem, but lying about her background (her parents being away in australia) is the questionable part. What kind of girl will lie about their parents to create a better image for themselves? A good, filial girl? A down to earth, humble girl?!

Ray arrives at her parents’ house in Australia. Bring along a box cutter knife and some mouse poison purchased at the nearest convenient store, Ray rings the doorbell.
Her parents come out to open the door. Using his amazing acting skills, he cries and asks for her parents to help them reconcile. Her parents believe in what he says (they do not know what her “good” daughter has done).
They let him in and Ray volunteers to cook dinner. He pours the poison into the food and lets them eat it.
Both parents fall to the floor crying for help. Ray, who has revenge in his eyes tells them: “It’s not my fault, it is your daughter’s evilness. She killed my family and both of you will help her return the debt.” They try to run out of the house but Ray takes out the knife and… becomes Tavia Yeung 3.0. He got his revenge.
Acting very calmly, Ray buries their bodies and even spits on them. He says, “This is only the beginning. I will not let your daughter live!!”
Before he leaves the house, he gathers as much things of Karena he can. He leaves the country and comes back to Hong Kong.
On the other side, Karena doesn’t know her parents were murdered. Ever since she became rich, she didn’t even look at them. She only parties and shops everyday. Very soon, she will meet him again..

My I ask…what’s so bad about coming from a not so well off family???! The media tries to make it sound as if it’s a crime to come from a non-wealthy background.
If It is true that Karena tried to lie about her family’s background, i’d feel for her family members instead. Because instead of supposedly making her family appear ‘better’ or make herself seem like she came from a ‘good’ background to the media and the public eye, she has actually in a way put shame onto her family. Being the daughter, lying about her family’s background is indirectly implying that she feels ashamed with the state of her upbringing and her family members socio-status…I dont see a problem of actually telling the truth and bravely replying that her actual background/upbringing is not as well off. As to her family background….if this were true, It’s wrong to deceive people, but i guess it’s ok, because people might not want to show their personal information. In my opinion, it’s can be called a white lie. I don’t know if she’s really lying only to use this as bait so she can bring up her social status, find rich people or that she’s ashamed of her background, but people should not fully believe in what the paparazzi make up. It’s really hard to find the truth, since she is dating Raymond who’s rich and there’s a 14year age gap difference, but that doesn’t mean they are always known as “gold diggers.” Gold digger or not, I hope Karena wouldn’t be too stressed out with these hating comments.

is it wrong to admire the roast pork choppers in Chinatown? I always thought they were such nice men – I didn’t know that it was a shameful occupation in HK. This might make roast pork choppers overseas suddenly feel bad about themselves.
I don’t think that many Chinese people would mind having a roast pork chopper as an in-law. It’s better than having Cheung pak Chi or Pansy Ho’s father as an in-law. I think that the hybrid thing would not be a positive but it would be accepted – shoon la – and then the grandparents would just try to dose the next generation with Chinese breeding so they wouldn’t lose their heritage. I think that Hollywood media being what it is – we are all exposed to Westernization without hybridizing so it’s not going to rob the foreign in laws of their shared grandchild’s cultural training if the baby is dosed with Chineseness.
