Mandy Wong Fell for Lai Lok-yi During Filming

To promote their new show, the cast of TVB’s modern comedy My Life As Loan Shark <街坊財爺> dressed up as “Chang’e Flies to the Moon” <嫦娥奔月> characters in light of the upcoming Mid-Autumn Festival. My Life As Loan Shark had premiered in Hong Kong on September 2, 2019.

Starring Kent Cheng (鄭則仕), Kingdom Yuen (苑瓊丹), Lai Lok-yi (黎諾懿), Mandy Wong (黃智雯), Maggie Shiu (邵美琪), and Mimi Choo (朱咪咪), the show centers on a loan shark family that wants to give up their old ways of lending out loans. Dressed as Hou Yi, Lok-yi revealed that his character will soon start a relationship with Mandy. Dressed as a beautiful woman, Mimi joked, “He should start a relationship with me instead! Women my age are great: flatulent, dewetting, not stubborn, and good for the core!”

Dressed as Chang’e, Mandy said her look took two hours in the makeup chair. Mandy has never filmed a costume drama since her debut in 2007. “I would love to try it out,” she said. “Maybe a palace drama or even a wuxia hero.”

Having starred in a few costume dramas in the past, Lok-yi said he has no desire to get back into the costumes again. “I’ve had to shave my head a couple of times, but I don’t think I’d be willing to do that anymore. I’m not young anymore. I’m afraid that the hair won’t grow back!”

At the mention of their blossoming relationship on the show, Lok-yi said, “We’re kind of like Romeo and Juliet. It’s romantic.”

Mandy admitted that she actually fell for Lok-yi while filming the show. “There’s a scene where my eye got injured, so he helped feed me. My heart felt something then. No man has ever fed me like that before.”

Lok-yi said, “She’s so good with her words.”

  1. Mandy doesn’t look good in period custom, especially that one. The poster behind her, she looked like NNadi (?), they lady who did female version of Sherlock wannabe series recentlt.

Shouldn’t Mandy be more careful or clarify her words since he’s married and all? Or are they both pretty nit “tabloids-worthy” so they can whatever?

She’s a decent actress but I find her performance boring somehow. She has many different role and the only one came to life is “Gwan Yee So.” She was married to Oscar’s character m, and it had Sam Gor in it. The one Linda and Ron paired together and she cheated on him with Michael Tse. Forgot the series name.

Anyways, this series has good older cast so I’ll probably give it a try.

Yeh In costume, Mandy looks like a glorified maid. I agree that her best performance was in I’escargot and her best has always been as support. TVB does not rate her much and rightly so. Sticking her back out into a boring young role alongside Lai Lok Yi after letting her lead on her own previously in that over the top performance ‘Threesome’ . Totally outshone by Maggie here who is brilliant as always..
