Myolie Wu and Wayne Lai to Portray Spies in “Rosy Business 3”

The highly anticipated third installment for the successful Rosy Business <巾幗梟雄> franchise is currently in busy pre-production mode. Producer Lee Tim Sing (李添勝) and returning scriptwriter Ip Kwong Yam (葉廣蔭) have recently confirmed their involvement in the project.

With the exception of Wayne Lai (黎耀祥), Rosy Business 3 will feature an entirely new cast. According to Tim Gor, he wanted his new cast to be younger and fresher, which led him to the choice of casting Myolie Wu (胡杏兒) and Edwin Siu (蕭正楠) to star alongside Wayne.

Rosy Business 3 will be a romantic drama that takes place in 1920’s Republican China, a period when the warlords and triads of China were at their highest power. Myolie will portray a spy, Wayne her colleague, and Edwin her first love, who eventually becomes an influential triad leader. Power, corruption, and camaraderie will be the themes that will be explored in this installment.

Myolie and Edwin did a private costume fitting in TVB City on October 2 to prepare for Rosy Business 3’s sales presentation trailer, which will be included in TVB’s 2013 Program Presentation event. Myolie explained that Rosy Business 3 is merely a working title, and she hopes that TVB will consider changing it so she can avoid comparisons with Rosy Business star, Sheren Tang (鄧萃雯), who Myolie allegedly “replaced.”

Although Tim Gor has full creative authority behind the production of Rosy Business 3, he has no say on determining the title itself, which is copyrighted by TVB. Myolie revealed that Tim Gor had not discussed the drama’s script with her in detail yet, so it is possible that there will be a name change in the future.

Nonetheless, Myolie has expressed her excitement to film Rosy Business 3, which will begin production in February 2013. The actress considers Rosy Business 3 to be her top priority, and she had to rearrange her February schedule in order to make room to film the drama.

Wayne did a private costume fitting on October 5. Unlike Myolie, Wayne did not think it is necessary to change the name of Rosy Business 3. He explained, “This name is just like a genre, a brand. For example, the cast of Forensic Heroes 3 <法證先鋒III> is completely different from the first two, yet it still earned really good ratings. [Rosy Business 3] doesn’t need to have the same cast. Even if Sheren and I aren’t included, it should still do well.”

Rosy Business 3 is planned for 30 episodes, and it will film at locations such as Sichuan, Guangxi, Fujian, Shanghai, and Zhejiang. Several reports have indicated that Sire Ma (馬賽) and Natalie Tong(唐詩詠) will also join the cast.

  1. With Myolie Wu and Wayne Lai portraying spies, this reminds me of “The Silent War”.

“Power, corruption, and camaraderie will be the themes that will be explored in this installment.”

I’m sure Tim Gor will explore these themes well.

  2. ““This name is just like a genre, a brand. For example, the cast of Forensic Heroes 3 <法證先鋒III"
    Yes but f

    1. Sorry clicked enter when I didn’t finish commenting.

Yes but Forensic heroes 3 has the same concept about Forensic same with A great way to care 2! But Rosy Business 3 doesn’t have the same concept or cast members…

And didn’t Tim Gor said he wants to say people he hasn’t worked with before? This cast is Detective Columbo + Myolie mixed into one -_-

  3. So is the 梟雄 in the Chinese title going to be Edwin or Wayne?

Also, I know it’s just the sales presentation trailer, but hair, wardrobe and makeup are probably some of the weakest departments at TVB…

  4. I was hoping for a modern era series. Since Rosy Business 2 touched on that era already. Or maybe an even older era than in Rosy Business 1. Not a fan of spy series.

    1. I think modern would have completed the trilogy too, however, it’s not really like this show will have anything to do with the previous instalments.

      1. True but the spy thing has been done in Rosy Business 2. Just for sake of freshness, a modern series would be nice, more so Myolie looks modern. She doesn’t have that era’s look. Or they can ask Tang Wei to act in a TVB series, her cantonese is passable from what I remember, of course minus the nudity.

    2. Yeah, I was hoping for a modern theme to complete the trilogy. But then, it’s really not RB3? Eh, whatever.

Myolie’s look is not fitting for ancient or pre-modern. Her forte is modern anyway.

    3. I was hoping for a modern RB3 too, to complete the trilogy. This era and story description sounds too similar to RB2, what with the triads and wars and spies.

Also this picture gives me a feeling of deja vu — IIRC Wayne was wearing a similar uniform in the sales presentation trailer for RB2, and Myolie’s wig looks very familiar…

      1. @ Hannah

Or Rebecca’s in SSSS? Regardless, someone should burn it because I haven’t seen a single actress pull it off.

      2. @Hannah Yeah, Fala’s wig in RB2 was the chief one I was thinking of, haha. I also think I’ve seen this wig pop up in some other TVB dramas.

@advo Agree, TVB’s hair department needs to burn this wig! It’s awful.

      3. @advo: The bangs look like it. Rebecca sported the pig-tails look.

      4. Haiyo, during that period, that was the hottest style ma… Now it is Gangnam Style ok 🙂

    4. I would have wanted a modern series too! but Tim Gor does not really like making modern series. I think his last one was 6 years ago?

    5. the first installment is always the best.the more you make the worse it is.

    6. Older would be nice. However, I’m still a little iffy over the Myolie/Wayne pairing and ancient costumes might emphasise that difference…

Anyway, it’s funny how we automatically think of 3 time periods only: ancient, early 20th century or modern. But when we say “ancient” there are already centuries of history there already and a number of dynasties that aren’t as regularly covered in dramas. If we’re looking for something more in recent memory, how about the 70s?

      1. Myolie looks pretty good in retro setting, like COTOB.
But I do like the espionage theme though.

      2. I read that the first love storyline is between Myolie and Edwin. Don’t know about Wayne’s role, but I hope Myolie and Edwin will be together in the end.
First love reminds me of Raymond and Niki in Bottled Passion.

  5. lol.. in the picture they look like a pair from Madame Tussauds’!!

    1. ya, that’s coz half her face is covered in the shadow
      HAHAHA

  6. Dont like Sire and Natalie Tong, I’m tired of them, can’t act and dont look particularly good either.

  7. Love Myolie but not liking the hair 🙁 looking forward to the series tho

  8. Aw, no. Please. Sire is.. Sire is much better than Christine Kuo. But, I rather have both of them out of this drama. Complete ruining this drama. This is a big drama. We can’t risk it. Natalie, I don’t think that she can handle it.

    1. Agree, not a big fan of either Sire or Natalie. Not sure if I’ll watch this one since the original cast is not returning other than Wayne.

  9. Ok so they will have Rosy Business 3.. I think I will skip it…

  10. I think Myolie looks really cute. Wayne looks right for that uniform too. Cant wait!!!

  11. Myolie is cute and stand out with that hair. I’m looking forward for her chemistry with Edwin and Wayne.
