Raymond Wong Versus Ruco Chan

TVB’s latest drama, Slow Boat Home <情越海岸線>, starring Raymond Wong (黃浩然), Ruco Chan (陳展鵬), Selena Li (李詩韻), and Aimee Chan (陳茵媺) has aired to positive ratings compared to its predecessor, Bullet Brain <神探高倫布>. Slow Boat Home managed to peak at 30 points and generated a high amount of online forum discussion.

Raymond Wong Versus Ruco Chan

The biggest talk on the forums right now is the battle between the two male leads in the drama – Raymond and Ruco. Audience members openly discussed whom they would pick as most handsome and who is a better man. In response to the heated discussion between fans, Raymond disclosed that he is too old for this type of gossip now and that he is more focused on the ratings of the actual drama.

When Slow Boat Home took over the spot for Bullet Brain, Raymond knew there would be heavy comparisons between the two. After admitting that there has been much pressure on the ratings, Raymond said, “The ratings of the drama is most important to me and I’ve been keeping an eye on the online discussions. How well the drama is doing indicates how much the viewers like the series and my character as a whole. I always give myself too much pressure, but this isn’t something I can control.”

Raymond Has Great People Skills

Despite the fact that Raymond is not one of TVB’s managed artists, he has been popular with producers, upper level management, as well as fellow actors. In the short times span of six years, he has already risen to be a first line actor. However, Raymond remains humble and continuously works hard knowing that competition is high in the entertainment industry. He said, “Of course I want to move up the ladder, but I don’t pay attention to what others say about me nor will I be jealous of anyone else. I have been blessed – there are some people that have spent over 20 years but haven’t gotten anywhere, so I only hope to have a stable career.”

With the birth of his younger son, Raymond set aside career as being his number one priority and decided to focus more on his family. Raymond may be busy with filming series after another, but he always takes the time to communicate with his sons to ensure their healthy development and upbringing.

  1. I met both of them before. Ruco was very nice and down-to-earth. Raymond was a little snobby……

    1. Yep, met Ruco (twice) and he’s definitely a nice guy. Don’t know about Raymond…

  2. Really Raymond has that kind of attitude? he seems nice but who knows in the real life. Love Ruco and nice to know he has nice attitude 🙂

  3. I like Ruco more.
Raymond’s not as good looking, and his acting is always so over the top.

Don’t know about their personalities in real life. No comment on that.

  4. ruco is better no competition here. raymond acting is exaggerated and he’s not hot like ruco. heard from people that raymond is snobbish and arrogant too in real life.

  5. Ruco for the acting. I believe they’re the same age, but Raymond looks younger!

  6. Raymond is older by two yrs I think they’re both great actors, a lot of chemistry together. Raymond makes a better villain same as Ruco. I don’t think Raymond is arrogant, there are just times when artists have bad days and they’re pretty shy in real life. I think they’re both great ppl

  7. Raymond is more handsome than Ruco; they both are good actors.

  8. I like both Raymond and Ruco. They have really good chemistry together especially in The Other Truth. They both seem really nice and friendly. But of course if I had to choose between the two, it would be Ruco all the way for his acting and his good looks.

  9. Ruco all the way!!! Raymond is over hyped and I hate how his acting is alwayz over exaggerated and he just yells all the time!!

  10. Ruco – please come back with my heart…. you ran off with it!!!!!!!

    1. Pandamao,
“Ruco – please come back with my heart…. you ran off with it!!!!!!!”

Ruco has stolen many hearts since “The Other Truth”. In “Ruse of Engagement” and “Brother’s Keeper”, he shows his more masculine side. Can’t wait.

  11. Peak at 30 points, audience prefer light and easy drama, not rack our brain in front of the TV after a hard day work

  12. I prefer Raymond Wong, not as handsome Ruco. During TVB got the right to telecast the World Cup 2014, all TVB artist gather to celebrate. Ruco was in the front row and Raymond Wong at the 2nd row.

I personally felt Raymond acting much more mature than Ruco

  13. Ever had that feeling when you first see them and you just like them right away? Yeah, that’s me with Ruco. Don’t even have to think twice about this one ahaha. Ruco!!! <3

  14. Nothing to compare. In the series itself, Ruco is so underused. I mean his character is like sleepwalk also can do. As for Raymond, he has more to do but again I find the series to have sort of like no content at all. Things happen but they just happen to just push the series towards the end. Gone one crazy woman, in a very stubborn potentially crazy woman. Ruco’s clinic in the series is like magnet for crazy people. And so far pass 20 episodes and still ongoing. However the worst will be the background music. Like no budget given to music, so very wrong music at wrong time. I find myself wondering what the hell is wrong with TVB these days. Are the good writers all gone?

I find this series may work better like a continous series, like Life and Love in Cheung Chau where each episode we have new character
with some problem, goes to Cheung Chau troubled, leave Cheung Chau happy. It could work.

    1. Funn,
“where each episode we have new character
with some problem, goes to Cheung Chau troubled, leave Cheung Chau happy. It could work.”

I visited Cheung Chau while in Hong Kong. The island is very small and I rode a bike around it. While TVB series make Cheung Chau appear to be a very special place, I found there was little to do there. I found Lantau Island to be more scenic, with better beaches.

    2. I feel like this series lead s Raymond, he has so much screen time.

  15. I happen to think that Raymond is quite down-to- earth, having seen him at a cha chaan teng in my neighbourhood

  16. Ruco all the way!!!! Eventhough Raymond is the lead actor, but Ruco standout more. Ruco so Hot, especially in the first episode when he bumped into Raymond on his bike. I watch that scene several times.

  17. This is not a fair comparison, Rico’s character is calm and cool where as Raymond’s character is loud and obnoxious. Looks wise they’re so different, but to me Raymond Wong is better looking but Ruco is sexier.

  18. I feel in love withRuco ever since Ghost Buster (ATV) series. He is cute and good looking.

  19. Honestly, I like Raymond more. I think that it’s the characters Raymond gets that are OTT (SBH, The Days of Days, the taxi series with Kate and Sonija and GCO) and not his acting. A good example is BP. For me, he did really well in it.

    1. They’re all arrogant and shout a lot is what I meant by his characters in the series I mentioned.

  20. Not a fan of “Sweetness in the Salt”, but he was good there, too.

    1. Oops. I meant this as a reply to Magic’s comment…

  21. Ruco looks best with glasses. Raymond was hotter and more handsome in earlier TVB dramas. He has a great body too. But he doesn’t seem to be aging too well.

    1. I agree, ruco looks better with specs on. Without specs, he looks like a baddy..

  22. ruco’s face looks natural more relax so you feel more comfortable. raymond,s face looks quite rough and it seems his face always cover some kind of tension and sorrow.

  23. I like Raymond better! Ruco and Raymond are always in dramas together

  24. Love Ruco! he is as hot as ever.. he is adorable and intertesting in Slow Boat Home, love his character in the series, and in real life!

  25. Love Ruco, he has good looks and excellent acting. Yeah, same to me, he has stolen my heart since TOT.

I would say about 100 to 150 people around during the gathering at 11 am.

People were waiting for autographs and fighting the flyers that they hand out.

Too hot for me to stand there with all the see-lai’s.

BTW, they will be in Chinatown NYC around 2:30pm at Mott St and Canal St, TODAY.

    1. Larry,
Thank you so much for your exclusive photos of Raymond Wong and Ruco Chan! I thought about lining up to get autographs as well, but I have a family event today that I cannot cancel. I would have loved to see them in person!

Were the ladies screaming in excitement? So they were mainly housewives crowding the stars?

  27. Day 1 in Chinatown NYC…. was also a small crowd about 200 people at the Jewelery store on Mott Street and Canal Street. Photos later.

Day 2 back to Brooklyn, again promoting the jewelery store in 8th Avenue, close to 500 people, unable to get a close up pic with a screaming fans.

    1. Whats really funny is the ordinary tourists coming to NYC and never seen this type of Asian celebrities and fans… One of many people think it is…

      1. PSY, “Gangdam Style”

      2. Jackie Chan

      3. Jet Li

      4. The actor from ‘Lost” or ‘Hawaii Five-O’ (Daniel Dae Kim)

      5. BRUCE LEE, (Im not kidding!)

  28. The two singing in Fun Fun Show:

Can see that Ruco is hotter. The fans all flocked to the front stage when he sang.
