Ruco Chan and Edwin Siu were Primary School Classmates

Replacing Moses Chan (陳豪)’s role in upcoming grand production, Brother’s Keeper <巨輪>, Edwin Siu (蕭正楠) has successfully jumped up to the ranks as a TVB male lead. The 36-year-old actor will be starring alongside big names like Louise Lee (李司棋) and Linda Chung (鍾嘉欣) in the cross-millennium epic, and will be sharing ample screen time with the drama’s other male lead, Ruco Chan (陳展鵬).

Last week, Sudden Weekly magazine alleged that Edwin and Ruco did not get along very well on set due to the competition for screen time in Brother’s Keeper. The costars’ competitive nature with each other had in fact been around since their primary school days, when they attended SKH St. Clement Primary School together during the mid-1980s. The ex-classmates were said to be especially competitive when it came to sports, in which both Edwin and Ruco were involved in the school’s table tennis team.

Soon after the report was published, Edwin thanked the magazine on his Weibo, writing, “Thanks for helping us increase our exposure rate!” Ruco then replied to Edwin’s post, and wrote, “Not only has [Sudden Weekly] helped us out with the promotions, Edwin! But also with our primary school and endorsers!”

At a special function held on March 24, Ruco denied that that he was on bad terms with Edwin. “We play brothers in the drama, so we are as close as family.” Ruco was not unhappy about the rift rumors, but was glad that the rumors came after they completed the shooting of Brother’s Keeper. “If the rumors came while we were shooting it, which would negatively impact our emotions and our acting.”

Ruco assured that he and Edwin were never competitive with each other, saying, “The reports say that Edwin and I competed against sports, but Edwin rarely plays tennis table. He likes association football a lot more.”

There was, however, one thing that Ruco wished he could compete against Edwin someday. Ruco admitted that he wished he had more stage performance offers like Edwin, who has been reportedly earning at least $300,000 HKD every month from show performances alone.

    1. Why? Don’t get me wrong, I like Edwin too, just wondering… I do admit that I prefer Moses in comedic role.

  1. I would prefer Edwin too just cause Moses is getting old ya know…

    1. Edwin overacts at times, Moses mostly underacts but Moses is better at comedy. I am confused…

    2. agree. well hk media always known for making up news. feel bad for ruco and edwin but great that their exposure increased!

  2. both of them are nice fresh faces on tvb but prefer ruco better. edwin not bad but ruco is too wonderful.

  3. Looks like these 2 newbies will be going after the Most Improved.

    1. wrong. they’re the front runner for tv king and best supporting this year. they will skip most improved because they’re past that status.

    2. It’d be weird if Ruco is given Most Improved since he’s been nominated for TV King already. Edwin has good chance of for Most Improved and probably will have shot at Best Supporting too for whatever drama

  4. Both guys are too clean, reporters try to stir up rivalry?

  5. Haven’t watched anything with Edwin but I’ve really become a big fan of Ruco recently after watching him in GPS. He was so fit and cool in those jeans *_* He really has a nice physique for action roles. Wonder how would he look in wuxia garb 😀

  6. That’s cute! I wonder who else were old classmates? As far as I know, only Stephen Chow & Small Tony Leung and Nic Tse & Edison Chen.

    1. From the top of my head Joey Leung and lau yolk chui (forgot her English name) and
joey yung & Wong cho lam

    1. Yep agreed he’s acting is better and naturally a rising star in TVB – hope Ruco gets more side income ie stage performance and others

  7. I find Edwin to be quite naturally in his acting. He can act as a villian, good guy or silly guy. Quite versatile. I enjoy his acting so far.

    1. AGREE! Edwin’s a great actor imo. Hope he gets more opportunities to play different roles in the future. He definitely has great potential.

  8. Of the two, Ruco is a better pick. Edwin still needs improvement in acting before he can be 1st lead.

  9. Both are quite different in the way they approach acting..obviously having to play different roles is a one thing. I really cant compare these two- they both are doing quite well.

and wow, who would’ve guessed they were primary schoolmates? But if you asked me who seemed like they were competitive in sports, call me judgemental or whatnot, but I would say Ruco straight away LOL. Looking forward to seeing more of these two in future series! 🙂

  10. Ruco is probably the better actor, but I like Edwin’s look more, haha. Can’t believe they are the same age, because Edwin looks so much younger

  11. Kind of like Edison Chen and Nicholas Tse being former classmates. Except with a lot of scandals. lol

  12. Edwin can’t be compared with Ruco who’s the lst lead since TOT. He’s still in the supporting or 2nd lead. I prefer Ruco both in acting & looks. Edwin’s good looking but lacks character & charisma.
