Ruco Chan Has 6 Dramas Waiting to Air

Ruco Chan (陳展鵬) may just be the actor with the most number of dramas waiting to air. Although he has filmed several dramas in recent years, only Sinister Beings <逆天奇案> managed to air this May. With currently six dramas still yet to air, there is not much Ruco can actually do, even if he is worried about his dramas being shelved indefinitely.

Although action drama Chinatown <唐人街>–which also stars Joel Chan (陳山聰) and Natalie Tong (唐詩詠)–completed filming in 2109, it has been shelved for the past two years. Luckily, it is rumored that the series will officially air in the upcoming new year under brand-new name Steel Fist Hero <鐵拳英雄>.

Having filmed over 100 episodes across various dramas, Ruco’s other series awaiting broadcast include: I’ve Got The Power <超能使者>, Midnight Protector <黯夜守護者>, Loving You At The Same Time <童時愛上你>, The Invisible Team <隱形戰隊>, and Hidden Door <隱門>. Since it is speculated that his dramas will most likely all premiere in 2022, Ruco will probably be opting to spend more time with his family instead of work next year.

Having heard that Chinatown was being renamed, Ruco shrugged and laughed, “It’s like the drama is being dismembered. Even if the series airs now, the feeling isn’t the same anymore. Despite this, I’m still very excited and I look forward to its broadcast.”

When asked if viewers will get tired of watching too many of his dramas next year, Ruco exclaimed, “Maybe it’ll take three years to air a series! Actors are very passive, there are a lot of factors that we can’t control. The only thing that we can do is to make sure we give a good performance.”

However, Ruco is very thankful that he has been working non-stop during the pandemic and was filming two dramas simultaneously at one point. “I still have the fire within me. I make sure to do my best, and maintain a certain level of quality. For example, in my new drama Hidden Door, I had to film an action scene on the first day of work. Things don’t just happen naturally when you have to film an action scene – you have to practice and rehearse. But I can achieve this level of quality, and this is something I can control.”

With Owen Cheung (張振朗) and Shaun Tam (譚俊彥) being hot favorites to win Best Actor, Ruco is regarded as the dark horse with his performance in Sinister Beings. However, Ruco explains that although Sinister Beings was the highest rated show in 2021, is not an Anniversary series and therefore he is not very confident in winning this year.

  1. I wonder why, did he anger some higher up people or something? 6 is an insanely high number. Not 2 or 3, but six? Holy crap. I was very excited for Chinatown too, was so bummed out that it wasn’t aired. Saw the trailer and it was very good. TVB should go back to more wuxia, fighting, and costume dramas. Even drama like Vincent Wong’s The Man Who Kills Trouble was pretty good, very solid fighting choreography. Just needed better script writing, but TVB has some pretty good action choreographer from time to time.
