Sharon Chan to Give Birth Around Christmas Day

Despite being five months pregnant, mother-to-be Sharon Chan (陳敏之) is itching for more things to do. The 37-year-old, who married her non-celebrity boyfriend William Lui (雷偉信) in 2014, said she’s looking forward to doing more work during her pregnancy.

“I won’t be able to film dramas,” she said, “But hosting jobs aren’t a problem. I’ve always been a very active person. Pregnant women should stay active and exercise anyways.”

Sharon shared that she will be delivering her baby via C-section this December. She revealed, “My husband has chosen the date already. We are not superstitious, but I do hope that the baby’s birth will be like a Christmas present!” Sharon added that she is considering to get Christine Ng’s (伍詠薇) older brother to give her baby an English name.

The first few months of her pregnancy was a struggle. She found it difficult to eat and sleep, and thus lost a few pounds. Fortunately, she has gained it all back, and now she can eat and sleep without ease.

“I used to love eating vegetable,” said Sharon with a laugh. “But now I can’t stop thinking about eating steak.”

  1. I’m not a mother, so maybe those who are can enlighten me. I read an article recently that said medically unnecessary C-sections were actually not very good for the baby. Since they’re usually scheduled prior to a woman’s due date, and nature usually has a good idea when the baby is developmentally ready to come out, c-section babies can suffer minor but very real setbacks that could easily have been avoided. Even an extra few days in the womb can help additional cells grow. Is this true?

If so, it’s quite perplexing for mothers-to-be to get unnecessary c-sections. Not an attack on Sharon, specifically, but is having a certain birthday THAT important?

    1. @sasamii it really depend, as long as they schedule the csection on or after the 38th week then its fine. As 38 weeks is consider full term so having baby then is fine. Having the baby too long inside body is not great either. Usually if baby is over 40 weeks then they normally schedule to induce the baby to come out. As if baby get too big, won’t have space in womb and can get tangle up in umbilical cord. So it really depends. My neighbor 2nd child was 3 days over due and end uo being stillborn. It was so sad. For her 3rd pregnancy they schedule a csection at 38th week and all was normal.

      1. @sasamii many gynae are not in favour of doing c-SECTION due to the higher risks involved. actually it’s easier for doctors to do C-section because they just cut, take out the baby and stitch. recovery is longer and more painful too. unless baby is too big or other medical reasons, it’s safer to give birth naturally.

  2. It’s good to hear that she’s going to be a mother pretty soon but, I’m so curious about her husband? How come she doesn’t take any pictures with him at all? The only time you see her with him in the picture is on the day they got married but still can’t see how he looks like. Even a big stars or real rich people like Cathy Tsui or Gigi Lai you still see their husbands faces and they take some pictures together too unlike Sharon husband. Ever since they got married you still don’t get to see her husband face. Questions is he really that private? Or just don’t like to take pictures at all? Or is he trying to avoid something? I’m sure some of you guys wonder the same thing too.

  3. Just curious, but why does she need “Christine Ng’s older brother to give her baby an English name”?

Surely her English isn’t that bad?

    1. @myxx is Christine’s brother a 风水 guy? why would she need to approach him? the baby’s English name is more meaningful if the parents choose themselves.

      1. @janet72 and @myxx if google is right. Seem like Christine brother is an English Tutor and open his own academy. I guess she think someone with better English will come up with a better name? Foolish if that’s the case.

      2. @happybi Chinese name…approach 风水 guy understandable or else the paternal grandparents decide. but English name I feel is more suitable for parents themselves to decide.

      3. @janet72 exactly. Totally agree. Just weird as it’s just an English name.. Just find one they like.. look up the meaning and see if it’s good and if good, just use it.. if not, move on to the next one..

      4. @happybi there are so many babies’ names. they can find one with the alphabet they like or whatever. the Chinese name is already decided by the paternal grandparents for many kids…can’t even decide on English name?
