Tavia Yeung, Ron Ng Attend Event for Left-Behind Children

Tavia Yeung (楊怡) and Ron Ng (吳卓羲) attended an event hosted by Oxfam, an organization dedicated to reducing poverty. At the function, Oxfam talked about the 60 million left-behind children in China, a term referring to children being left behind in rural areas as their parents struggle to make a living in cities.

Tavia shed some tears as she listened to the talk about left-behind children. She exclaimed that the number is shocking and said that all children should be loved by their parents. “My father passed early. Although my mother did marry again, I do consider myself as someone who grew up in a half single household. There are many things that the children in China cannot enjoy. It touches me to see how strong these children are. I’ve sponsored a few children myself and I encourage others to do as well.”

The former TVB actress, who got married to Him Law (羅仲謙) in March, was once asked if she plans to have children of her own any time soon. Tavia said children are a gift from God, and she’ll leave that to fate. If she does have kids, she’ll teach them that happiness and fortune are not something ready made.

Tavia added further that she will not stop working even if she does become a mother. She will try to find a balance in both. “You cannot leave behind children in Hong Kong! It’s illegal!”

Asking if married life has made Tavia more passionate about helping others, she laughed and said, “I’ve always been like this! But I’m on a break now, so I can afford the time to pay more attention to charitable works.” She revealed that, it time allows, she and Ron will take a trip to Mainland China for the program.

“He’ll definitely cry when he sees the children,” Tavia joked. Ron agreed, “She’s not lying.”

As Sunday is Mother’s Day, Ron said he would stay at home to cook dinner for his mother. “But I always cook for her anyways. My mother pretends she doesn’t know how! I’m the one in charge of all the seafood!”

Tavia and Him, on the other hand, plan to hold a big group party on Mother’s Day. “We’ll group together for a big party!”

  1. Having children are such a blessing.. it’s really sad that there are so many children life behind everywhere in the world (not just China). People really need to practice safe sex if they are not ready. As bringing them out into the world without having the mean to provide for them will only cause frustration to the parent and the kids will suffer. Just very sad.

Tavia always been very filial to her Mom and it’s good to learn that her Mom did remarried.

  2. I am too happy that Tavia’s mum found someone to take care of her. It was all very sad and sudden when he passed away. (I remember it being around “Land of Wealth”)

I think there is a new crisis in China where kids are left with the grandparents so their parents can work elsewhere but end up not developing a good relationship later on. It is quite a sad thing for both the parents and the kids since the parents really sacrificed for the kids and you can’t force the kids to feel emotions/affection which they have not had the time to develop.
