“The White Storm 2” Accused of Plagiarism

Starring Andy Lau (劉德華), Louis Koo (古天樂), and Michael Miu (苗僑偉), 2019 Hong Kong action film, The White Storm 2: Drug Lords <掃毒2>, aired to major commercial success, grossing $191.47 million USD worldwide. While the third installment has already begun production in June 2021, rumors began circulating that The White Storm 2 plagiarized the 2006 Chinese film, Love From Angel <完美情人>.

Andy, along with the other six producers of White Storm 2, were brought to court for infringement disputes.

The characters, story outline, character relationships and development, critical plots, and shooting techniques, are allegedly near carbon copies of Love From Angel. While most undercover cop stories focus on the police force, The White Storm 2, similar to Love From Angel, focuses instead on a person belonging to triads who strive to become “one of the good guys.”

The film’s main producer, Daniel Lam (林小明), denied the allegations, stating that the script for The White Storm 2 is an original production, and that he has never seen Love From Angel.
