TVB Signs Miss Hong Kong Finalist, Christy Chan

Although the 2012 Miss Hong Kong pageant ended, the real competition between the participants has only just began. Many former contestants had used the pageant as a stepping stone to enter into the entertainment circle. Charmaine Sheh (佘詩曼), Myolie Wu (胡杏兒), Selena Li (李詩韻), Kate Tsui (徐子珊), Aimee Chan (陳茵媺) are some of the former contestants who have become successful fadans in TVB.

Yesterday, several 2012 Miss Hong Kong contestants, namely, Christy Chan (陈洁玲), Wingto Lam (林泳淘), Gloria Chan (陳華鑫), Kayley Chung (鍾麗), Ivana Wong (王舒銳), Penelope Pin (卞曉帆) and Xaviera Yau (尤蔭蔭) were invited for screen tests at TVB City. Having an interest in acting and hosting, Christy Chan has successfully signed a management contract with TVB.

When asked if her good friend, Roxanne Tong (湯洛雯) was disappointed in not being placed in the pageant, Christy responded, “No, the ranking is not important at all. Joining the pageant is to gain valuable experiences. She won the Tourism Ambassador Award and then signed with TVB. She is likely to stay here to develop her career. I feel like a spokesperson for Roxanne Tong!”

Although Gloria Chan and Kayley Chung have not been offered contracts by TVB, the duo has expressed their interest in acting. Upon hearing that second runner-up Tracy Chu (朱千雪) may have an opportunity to appear alongside with Andy Lau (劉德華) in a TVB drama, all the contestants were envious of Tracy and hoped that they can work with the superstar too.

Regarding Carat Cheung’s (張名雅) controversial win, Kayley replied, “Actually, she is very good!”

  1. She is a cute girl. Hopefully, she’ll impress us with her good acting and what not.

    1. Btw she should work on her voice. Chicken voice. But if charmaine can improve, so can Christy.

      1. Agreed. But Linda and Charmaine also had those chicken voice but still get popular

  2. Christy has been noticeable since the first audition LOL. She’s cute. Good to have new cute faces in TVB since it’s boring to see same old same old 😀

  3. Christy looks quite photogenic in her photo. Good luck in her acting career.

  4. I knew it!!!!! That she’ll be signed by TVB!!!!!! She has the “look” that’s suitable for TV if you know what i mean. You know, if Wayne Lai wasn’t so mean to her, she would of have a chance at the top 6.

    1. I thought Lam Fung was meaner than Wayne. If he didn’t keep trying to deviate from the topic.

      1. Maybe 620 told them to be mean to Christy so that Christy can be signed and go to hosting and hosting immediately LOL

      2. I think that’s why they kicked out Cindy Yeung so early. LOL. Because they need girls to host the show with Grasshoppers. LOL.

      3. If LF and Wayne were mean… then King Kong towards Melanie was just unfair! maybe they thought it was funny for foreigner to foreigner…

    2. It’s not their fault that she couldn’t answer the questions well. lol

      1. lol.. I don’t think she’d fit as an actress anyway. She’s got too much going for her 😛 in all honesty, I didn’t think any had the “it” factor in terms of acting.

  5. I knew Roxanne would get signed with TVB…but I would hate to see her on screen in series…there is something devious about her appearance that isn’t comfortable to see on screen. But that’s just my opinion.

    1. Wingto said she wants to cooperate with Wayne Lai because Wayne can teach acting, and Wayne has fatherly feel. LOL Wayne, now you’re already daddy level

  6. I like Christy and I’m glad I’ll see her in TVB series. I hope TVB will enroll Christy in acting class first before they would offer her any role.

To me, Christy’s face/feature somewhat looks like Anita Chan (Chilam’s wife).

    1. Anita Yuen? Yes, I agree! That’s what I thought when I first saw her.

    2. Christy looked a bit like Anita Yuen in the above photo, but not at the Miss Hong Kong finale (i.e. in person).

  7. Tracy Chu will star with Andy Lau? Looking forward to that. I quite like Tracy.

    1. question is.. Is Andy really gonna come back to film TVB ‘drama’?

    2. Will the Andy rumour come true? And even if it’s true, Tracy will play a very small role as there are a lot of “sisters” who will fight for the leading, won’t go to Tracy.

  8. I think Christy Chan has potential as an actor rehearsing off a script but might not be suitable as a host since she seems very ditsy and not too quick on her feet. She’s very pretty though. Xaviera Yau seriously???? I hate to be rude but she’s an eyesore and has a very husky and deep voice if you get my drift. I hope they sign Jennifer Shum, who is gorgeous and Cynthia Tsang- Cynthia definitely has sex appeal and could be really suitable for playing the mistress or evil character. Not sure if Jennifer would want to sign though since she was one of the few contestants who didn’t aspire to be an actress but a psychologist instead.

  9. when I think of all the women in the pageant, I don’t think of any of them as acting material at all… guess I’m the only one?

    1. You’re not alone. It’s so blindingly obvious that it probably didn’t need mentioning. Acting skills aren’t the prerequisite to making it in TVB these days anyway.

That being said, Christy was the one I picked as favourite right from the start. She certainly has the looks for television, although I’ve gathered from others (since I didn’t watch the pageant) that her personality/intelligence is a bit of a dud…?

      1. She was mousy and extremely “plain” in the pageant. Rather unimpressive.

      2. haha mousy, I’m not sure if that’s the best word choice though – in fact I thought her to be sassy and a huge diva during the pageant.

  10. I always thought she had the looks of a fadan :DD
Not sure who she reminds me of though.

    1. I hope TVB will sign Hiliary Tam up as well. Personally I like her and she is pretty in her style.

  11. Looks wise, she has it, as an actress and hopefully a character actress. But since many commented she has chicken voice, well she now knows which area she must improve on, other than acting. IN TVB’s history, never heard of acting classes for MHK. Many used to comment how they were dumped in front of the camera, being very green as to where to stand, to look, etc. Of course she will be guided, but mostly it is on the job training.

As for her inability to host, I am not worried. She will have lots of opportunity to learn and gain experience and thus in the end host but sometimes maybe TVB will put her squarely in the acting dept rather than hosting, which means they have big plans for her.

All I know is I already feel she has the acting look, but she may turn out to be absolutely rubbish at acting and with a chicken voice, I suppose we might have to suffer a decade before she knows what acting is. Or she could be a natural talent with a bad voice, and so I hope, I pray, she is taking lessons as to how to deliver her lines.

    1. P/S Most actors that are great could not host, and those who host aren’t very good at acting. They can be mutually exclusive. I’d rather she is great at one thing rather than mediocre at both.

  12. she has a very classic TVB fadan look. I look forward to seeing where her acting skills are at.

    1. Yes, that was what I thought too! I hadn’t watched the pageant… not sure if I want to…

But seems to me that TVB likes women who looks strong, like career women, e.g. Jessica Hsuan, Flora Chan, Charmaine etc, who plays professional roles well, e.g. doctors/ lawyers. Like those with strong jaw line, steely eyes and looks good in a short cut.

      Just what I observed.

  13. in a way she looks like chilam’s wife. sonija and anne heung also acted after the pageants. sonjia is a sweetheart in person while anne heung is really stuck up. really reall stuck up!!!

  14. I like her ever since she was a contestant of MHK. glad she sign with TVB, can’t wait to see her onscreen.

    1. “I like her ever since she was a contestant of MHK”

      So… that’s like what, 2-3 months? 😉

  15. After watching the whole finale of Miss Hong Kong 2012, I could say more about Christy. She was just okay, not great, not as pretty as per photo above. Her eyes were not as pretty, and her mouth was a bit too big.

Perhaps she will look prettier after she joins TVB, as most contestants did in the past.

  16. Don’t let Chilam co-star with Christy, or we would have exaggerated pictures of them together.

  17. All contestants looked different live on stage (at Finale). Most of them looked less pretty as they looked in their big-head photos. Also they looked different if they smiled. Some showed their ugly teeth and gum, and some had big mouths and lips.

Don’t let them mislead you to think everyone is as pretty as she looks in their big-head photos. Eventually I found out more about them at the Finale.
