“Yanxi Palace” Star Jenny Zhang Shows Off No Makeup Look

Chinese actress Jenny Zhang (张嘉倪), best known for her role as the “Fragrant Concubine” in the hit TV series Story of Yanxi Palace <延禧攻略>, was criticized for lying about her skin tone.

The 31-year-old has been starring in the second season of reality TV show Viva La Romance <妻子的浪漫旅行>, where she tagged along with four other celebrity wives to travel the world. Known for having clear and pale skin, netizens were shocked to see Jenny with dark skin on the show, compared to officially released photos which had clearly showed Jenny with much lighter skin.

On the Chinese social media platform Xiaohongshu earlier, Jenny talked about her skincare routine with the fans, and even provided the fans with some helpful skincare tips. Many netizens then left behind rather disparaging comments about Jenny being an unreliable educator, criticizing her for misleading viewers about her skin tone.

Though Jenny never directly responded to those ridiculous comments, in her next set of live videos, she decided to go bare faced with no filter so viewers could see her “true” skin tone.

Jenny explained that she was never a very pale person to begin with, and that the numerous outdoor location shoots for Viva La Romance only made her skin look more damaging. However, those were also the very same reasons to why she has to put more care and emphasis on her skincare routine.

  1. Haha wow I find that so funny and it’s ridiculous at the same time.

Is there another reason why she’s getting hate besides her looks? She resembles Tang Yan very much.
Today she looks different, but during her younger days I would rate her skin tone 10/10. I cannot find a single person today with this skin tone on television, and nobody dares to touch water like this while on screen:

I just care that at least she looks natural. I don’t get why people are so obsessed with looking creamy white even if it has to be done through plastic surgery or use tons of makeup. Obviously people look dark in pictures or videos when the lighting is not adjusted.
