Zhao Wei and Huang Xiaoming Reunite Onscreen in “The Good Wife”

Scheduled to start filming in July, contemporary female-centric drama The Good Wife <玫瑰之战> starring Vicki Zhao Wei (赵薇), Feihong Yu (俞飞鸿) and Huang Xiaoming (黄晓明) is in the works! Produced by new Classic Media, the drama will be directed by Sun Hao (孙皓) and co-written by Long Cai (龙莱) and Zhang Han (张涵).

Housewife-Turned-Career-Woman

Full-time housewife Gu Nian (Zhao Wei) is forced to re-enter the workforce after her husband Song Jia Chen is plagued by criminal suspicions and sexual rumors. She starts work at the law firm of old friend Feng Sheng (Huang Xiaoming).

At her workplace, Gu Nian displays exceptional work abilities, but is eventually forced to face off against her husband, good friend, and lover in the courtroom. Each obstacle and evolving situation she encounters shapes her growth journey, and she eventually comes into her own.

Centered on female career growth and empowerment, The Good Wife joins a spate of recent hit dramas with strong female characters, and is also Zhao Wei’s first such lead drama role. With her charming, lavish good looks and aura of confidence, the actress herself appears to exemplify the empowered female role the genre aims to portray.

Pairing of Old Friends

Also adding to the drama’s hype among fans is the casting of Zhao Wei and Huang Xiaoming. Known to be good friends in real life, the two were classmates at Beijing Film Academy, and Zhao Wei would always stand up for her old buddy whenever Huang Xiaoming was embroiled in online gossip or Internet rumors. However, some of Huang Xiaoming’s fans are unhappy at what they see as his complementary role to Zhao Wei’s meatier character, and have expressed that they would be boycotting the drama.
