Tracy Chu Scolded by “The Hippocratic Crush 2” Director for Outtakes

Newcomer, Tracy Chu (朱千雪), is already taking the heat for her lack of acting experience. Filming her first drama, The Hippocratic Crush 2 <On Call 36小時Ⅱ>, Tracy had a dozen outtakes and was scolded by the director for her poor acting.

In recent years, TVB has sourced their fadans from the company’s beauty competitions. Although a second runner-up in last year’s Miss Hong Kong pageant, Tracy was even more popular than winner, Carat Cheung (張名雅) among viewers and TVB executive management. Winning the favor of Virginia Lok (樂易玲) and Nat Chan (陳百祥), Tracy’s future at TVB already seems promising.

Cast as Lawrence Ng’s (吳啟華) love interest in The Hippocratic Crush 2, Tracy will have ample screen time in a significant supporting role. Lawrence is well known for his excellent acting skills and diplomatically praised Tracy, but the truth is that she may be feeling too much pressure in her first starring role.

“I’m very excited but also very nervous to act alongside Tavia Yeung (楊怡), Kenneth Ma (馬國明) and Lawrence Ng. I’m worried that I’ll be too stiff and not be able to speak my lines smoothly enough,” Tracy had admitted before filming officially started.

Tracy’s anxiety manifested itself on set, as she could not complete a recent scene to the director’s satisfaction. She could not even pretend to drop a stuffed animal, swaying it from side to side instead. When she was asked to cry in the scene, Tracy was unable to squeeze out any tears.

Although the director had demonstrated what to do before the cameras rolled, Tracy still had more than a dozen outtakes. Finally, the director rushed over angrily and told Tracy to act more naturally before the camera. Tracy looked on with worried eyes.

Lawrence stood on the side and waited for one hour to film his scenes. Hoping that his scenes with Tracy would be completed more smoothly, Lawrence rehearsed his lines with Tracy during their break time. Lawrence’s experience will be necessary to help Tracy get up to speed more quickly.

  1. so what? saw michelle reis first movie before? she acted along side kenny b and tony leung (carina lau’s hub) and ahe was shaking the whole time in that particular movie

  2. It’s totally understandable that someone as new as Tracy would have numerous outtakes. She’s just learning to act. The director needs to be more patient with newbies. Hopefully he won’t end up assaulting her like what the other director did to that Jenny girl when she got shoved into the wall with a bag over her head.

  3. I can’t wait to watch this drama b/c of Tracy Chu – she’s going to be my favorite newcomer.

    1. I’m sorry but I hate her! TVB keeps ruining promising dramas by casting unexperienced newcomers. They should be cast in less prominent roles. It’s not fair on actresses who’ve been in tvb for years and not getting good roles.

  4. What do they expect? Tracy came out of a beauty pageant, not the artiste training class. If they’re expecting no NGs, then they shouldn’t have casted someone as new as her in this role. The way that TVB works…

    1. Agree. Producers should not expect too much from a newbie. If they don’t have the patience, don’t cast any brand new actresses in heavy roles. It is not their faults to start their acting careers in such heavy roles and be partners with those veterans.

      1. I agree with you, sandcherry. But sometimes it is TVB executives who organizes some roles or at least “mandates” certain roles for certain people:/

      2. I agree with you too- they should not expect a newcomer to naturally act and cry on cue. Casting them in such relatively heavy roles is NOT a good idea. 1) They are not familar with the filming industry i.e. behind the scenes and environment let alone acting in front of the camera. 2) It will be a hugely distressing experience for their self esteem and confidence. Yeah it might be wonderful that they get to work with such experienced artists first time round, but the amount of pressure would negatively impact on their performance imo which means slowing down and affect the whole entire production…

In a way it’s good to know tvb likes to promote newcomers and give them such good opportunities, but on the otherhand, casting them in second line isn’t such a great idea…also, viewers aren’t able to always (most times..lol) give sympathy to newcomers- criticism comes first nowadays. Constantly being criticised for their fist time role isn’t a great feeling I could imagine lol. So please..tbb, if you want to give these newcomers a good start, cast them in smaller roles to allow them to gain experience and get a feel of the filming environment before putting them directly under the spotlight. Good for them, good for you/the production and good for viewers too.

      3. Not newbie faults. Its another classic case of tvb bad judgement!!!

  5. I thought the pageant contestants who end up acting would be sent to TVB’s acting trainee class first? They’re giving Tracy the chance for a prominent role so fast, she didn’t even have time to get training yet…no wonder she’s not good, they’re giving her the chance too early, just like Christine Kuo in GJ2.

  6. that what you get for picking out beauty queen.. can’t act, only have look..
how sad it is that they can not home good actress anymore.. just give part to any beauty but can’t act…
how I miss my 80-90 star.. oh where..oh where have they gone to..

  7. Oh my, I’m so sick of the beauty queens given all the heavy duty role before they are properly trained. Come on…
TVB needs to bring back real talent school who churns out replacement for it’s famous “products”; like Tony Leung, Carina Lau, Steven Chow, Sean Lau, Andy Lau etc etc!

  8. Well atleast…Lawerance is kind o helping and guilding her… 😛

  9. do h.k have acting schools like NIDA and WAAPA in oz?

    1. They do have acting school… But NIDA is seriously on a class of it’s own. I don’t think the HK or any Asian performing arts school come close to that standard.

    2. LOL, you think those aussies can act? Seen their TV series and they sucks, can’t compare with the TVB leads, I tell you.

NIDA and WAAPA? However good their training may be, AND i DOUBT IT, their product as seen on Aussie TV is lacking, the final product speaks for itself, mediocre at best!

      1. Ahem… Aussies soap stars are not representatives of NIDA grads… Cate Blanchett, Baz Luhrmann are. Do you see current TVB stars with the potential of getting an Oscar or more?

      2. I reckon the actors/actresses in Aussie soapies are comparable to US soapies. Sounds like you think Ridge and Brooke from Bold & Beautiful are Oscar material…

      3. @down upper, us kiss asser – gawd you r real us kiss asser. Puff said “Aussies soap stars are not representatives of NIDA grads”. Which means whatever garbage oz soap you talk about is just as whatever bold soap from the ass you kiss.

      4. @lolly, why don’t you make sure you read before you give your 0 cents worth??? My reply was to Puff. And you think a “US Kiss Asser” is gonna use the phrase “I reckon” – have you not heard Aussies speak, or maybe you think Aussies live in US???

      5. @lolly again, I meant my reply was NOT directed at Puff, it’s to, OH-ME-GOSH, you guessed it, @Down Upper, never under… is my Aussie accent prominent for you now???

      6. Hey @Puff, Lolly is right, you are an aussie ass licker.

Of course Asian stars can win the Oscars, but only if they are appreciated and given half a chance, which they are not.

You think Aussies can win if they act in their own Australian movies, an dnot Hollywood?? Hahaha,

They only made it because Hollywood embraces them, becasue they are whites, of which they don’t do the same for Asian stars, other than chop socky roles.

Ang Lee has to direct behind the scenes to be successful, if he acted in the frontline, he’ll still be ‘begging’…

      7. @Down upper, US Kiss Asser

Who care what are you, aussie or US or British, Aussie schools are only good to a certain standard, NIDA included.

You think your Univ of Sydney, Melbourne Univ are comparable to the ivt leagues and Cambridge?

No way, you don’t rank high. So, Nida standard is only as good as your aussie standard, you can only win the the southern hemisphere, LOL

      8. @Down upper, never under – are we not talking about actors and acting? When did race, scripting, directing and producing movies come into play? An actor has to be have good acting skills regardless of the script. U can put a good actor into a soapie and they’ll still be outstanding. Putting a bad actor in a good script don’t do **it!

    3. I agree that certain TVB artists aren’t up to the standards of an Oscar nomination. But TVB isn’t a good representative of all Asian performing arts school. There’s a lot of talented artists in Asia from these schools that are worthy of an Oscar nomination but there’s other factors that would prevent them getting one. I hate to bring in the race card, but unfortunately its part of the reason why there’s only a select few that are of color that has received the honor of getting the award.

      1. Thanks wildberries. Very sensible, and I’m happy to be corrected on my comment re Asian performing arts school. Just like not all Aussies production is a good representation of NIDA. Many thanks

  10. Rofl instead of sending her to acting class like the MHK finalists, she’s being propelled into acting. Geesh.

  11. All I can say is…give her a break. Not all are borned actresses, and without proper training, what does the director expect?

  12. Feel bad for Lawrence and anyone else who share a lot of screen time with Tracy. This is why people need to work from the bottom up.

    1. I STRONGLY go by the statement ‘Work from the bottom up’ and totally agree. How can you build a strong house without it’s foundations in the first place to structure and hold everything in tact and in place? It’ll just come crashing down. It’s like building trying to build the roof first and work downwards… At least give her a few weeks of training if they’re that desparate to use a beauty pageant newcomer.

  13. I guess this happens in any working role where youre new and have to do something youve never done and much more experienced ppl r just around watching and listening to you. Lol I feel her pain

  14. Tracy, hang in there. We all support you.
Never mind the director, he is not the audience, he don’t determine the ratings, you do.

  15. The director is Poon Ka Tak, he’s usually not the type to lash out and he’s a pretty understanding person. I don’t think it’s true he yelled at her but her taking many outakes is understandable considering she didn’t really go through much acting training prior to filming this series.

    1. Poon Ka Tak is the producer, not director. Actually, in TVB series, there are usually several directors, and their names are not often mentioned.

  16. Tracy Chu looks prettier and sweeter in the above photo than she did at the Miss Hong Kong Pageant Show.

All contestants do look better after they join TVB. Probably TVB has some kind of magic to make them look prettier.

  17. I think Tracy has the potential to become a great artiste. She has a really sweet smile 🙂 It’s okay if she has a dozen outtakes right now, since it’s her first time anyways. I rmb Lawrence Ng praising her a lot in a video clip.

  18. Wow.. A prominent role for a first timer. Seriously?! Pretty or not, TVB has been making mistakes by letting these pageant winners fill in bigger shoes than they can fit.

  19. I like Tracy. She has a very defined name and appearance. I saw her during on screen for TVB’s CNY Po Leung Kuk event and she seems quite natural and refined. It must be intimidating to be among such veteran actors on her first drama. I wish her the best.

  20. They should just let these newbies handle a few smaller roles first before starring.

  21. A dozen outtakes is ok. Read some very good actors even had to take 40 or 50 takes but that’s not TVB style. She is new. As long as she learned her lines, she knew where to stand and knew when to start speaking and be on time, everything else can be trained. After all she was cast knowing how raw she is and it should be TVB’s fault for thrusting her into the limelight and into the viewers’ hate consciousness. Lawrence as a senior did right by not pressuring her and going through the lines with her. Even a natural at acting had to retake a scene dozens of time for different interpretation. But then TVB directors are known to be harsh and probably bullies.

  22. She doesn’t look good on the above picture, feel like I’ll be cringe when I see her scene >_> but time will tell. Also, seriously, how hard is dropping a bloody bear >_>?
