Fala Chen Suffers Heat Stroke Filming for “Mysterious Treasure”

Despite suffering from a neck injury and having a minor heatstroke, Fala Chen (陳法拉) had a lot of fun while filming for Ronald Cheng’s (鄭中基) new film, Mysterious Treasure <神秘寶藏>, initially known as Cheung Po Tsai <張保仔>. Portraying a pirate for the first time, Fala was excited about the many action scenes.

Besides shooting in Cheung Chau, the cast and crew earlier headed to Hailing Island in mainland China. While completing an outdoor scene, Fala accidentally sprained her neck and had to return to Hong Kong for a one-week break. She has already visited a doctor and will go through physical therapy to help her heal faster. Fala gushed, “It was worth it though! The production was amazing, and they made me look really cool when I was fighting. The boat in the scene was several feet long! I’m so honored to be involved.”

To match her role of a rough pirate, Fala painted her skin a dark colour. She laughed and shared the substance acted like a sunscreen, shielding her own skin from the damaging UV rays. Although Fala sweat a lot during filming and lost a few pounds already, she did not tan as much since her skin was covered.

Filming for the movie is estimated to continue for another month. In the scorching heat every day, Fala admitted the temperature was the most difficult aspect to tolerate. She exclaimed, “It was so hot that it’s hard to describe! It was really scary! We set up tents and lights on the beach for filming, and it was more than 100 degrees Fahrenheit in there. I had a minor heatstroke.”
