“Voice of China” Star Li Daimo Detained for Drugs

Mainland singer Li Daimo (李代沫), a popular contestant from the first season of the singing competition The Voice of China <中国好声音>, was arrested on March 17 for taking drugs. According to the reports, the police raided an apartment located in Beijing’s Chaoyang District, where they found six people taking drugs including Li Daimo, who rented the apartment. Two others were found taking drugs at a hotel in Fengtai District.

All eight suspects left urine samples and were tested positive for amphetamines. According to the police, all suspects including Li Daimo admitted their illegal drug use. Li Daimo may also be charged for two misdemeanors – drug use and harboring drug users at his home, but the case is still undergoing further investigation.

In addition, the police also revealed that the suspects may all be part of a drug trafficking ring, but the police have yet to find Li Daimo’s involvement in the group.

Yesterday, Li Daimo’s agency Bravo Entertainment issued a statement following his arrest, expressing their “deep regrets” and “heartaches” about Li Daimo’s detainment and behavior. The agency also clarified that Li Daimo had no scheduled appearances on March 17 – the day of his arrest – and the agency has yet to receive further notices from the police. They apologized to the fans and the public on the singer’s behalf, and thanked the media for their concerns. Bravo Entertainment added that they will be supporting Li Daimo through this difficult time, and hope that the singer will aid in the police’s investigations and reflect on his own behavior.

As a result of the scandal, Li Daimo’s upcoming guest appearance for the talent show Power of Comedy <中国喜剧力量> was canceled.

Twenty-five-year-old Li Daimo is from Harbin, Heilongjiang. He joined the first season of The Voice of China in 2012 and shot to instant fame after performing his rendition of Wanting Qu’s (曲婉婷) “You Exist in My Song” <我的歌声里>.
