Dayo Wong May Not Return to TVB Next Year

Dayo Wong May Not Return to TVB Next Year thumbnail

Dayo Wong’s (黃子華) 2012 stand-up comedy show, Shower <洗燥>, ended its sold-out Hong Kong tour recently. In January 2013, Dayo will bring Shower to the Cantonese-speaking Guangdong Province of mainland China. He will hold three shows in Guangzhou from January 1 to 3. One show will be held in Zhongshan on January 12, and another in Foshan on January 18.

Dayo Wong attended a press conference for Shower in Guangzhou yesterday. Asked if Dayo would incorporate new jokes for the Guangzhou leg, Dayo said, “I can’t always talk about the society issues of every place I perform in, but I can bring to everyone the things that happen in my ‘Mars’ world. If you are interested in ‘Mars,’ then you will be interested in me, and no matter where you are from, you will understand the things I talk about.” Nonetheless, Dayo said that about “1 percent” of the Guangzhou shows will be different from the Hong Kong shows.

Dayo also added, “I always liked performing in Guangzhou. The Guangzhou and Hong Kong audiences are very similar. Both crowds are passionate and fast responders.”

After the press conference in Guangzhou, Dayo had to rush to Zhongshan for another press conference. He mentioned that for his Zhongshan tour, he will joke about the “Shiqi Pigeon” – a local delicacy – which is the other 1 percent difference from his Guangzhou and Hong Kong tours.

TVB Comeback Unconfirmed

It was previously reported that TVB hired Dayo to return to the station in 2013 to film a new comedy drama. If Dayo was to return, TVB would ask Dayo’s War of the Genders <男親女愛> costar Carol Cheng (鄭裕玲), who earlier announced her retirement from acting, to come back and star with him. TVB also suggested to produce a sequel to You’re Hired <絕代商驕>.

In his Guangzhou press conference, Dayo expressed that he is still considering, and stated, “If I decide to do more stand-up comedy shows in the next two years, I will not do anything else but that.” Dayo then added with a laugh, “But if Director Ang Lee (李安) wants me to film a movie for him, I will say yes immediately!”

Could it be that TVB’s offer is not sincere enough? Dayo said that he is currently unsure how his schedule looks like next year, and that his current plans are to finish the Shower tour.

    1. Ivy says:

Dayo please come back to TVB. I love all you series. You got some funny stuff. Love it. TVB stop treating your people bad. They were the people that made you famous.

    2. june says:

      tvb’s loss

although…i’m actually really keen for a You’re Hired sequel

if he’s gonna comeback, please let it be for this project

    3. Apple says:

OMG eww noo. I dont want to see carol act I’m to used to see her as a host! She has bad acting

      • Tvb fan says:

OMG! What generation do you belong to? Carol Cheng is one of the best fadan of her generation and not many can surpass her acting even now. She has won numerous acting awards in her time. It was due to her cosmetic surgery gone awry that she retired from acting early.

    4. Apple says:

      You’re hired sequel plzzzz

    5. Kidd says:

“TVB also suggested to produce a sequel to You’re Hired .”

But, Lam Miu Miu is also not with TVB anymore. Will the scriptwriter send Lam Miu Miu oversea and give Mak Tai Song a new girlfriend?

It will be harder to get both Dayo and Charmaine together now that Charmaine is not TVB managed. They might not have a compatible schedule.

    6. Daisy says:

I hope he does! He’s so hilarious and I miss him in screen :(

    7. Mick says:

If artists announce their retirement, they should remain retired. End of. Don’t come back to acting unless you have actually retired for years and people miss you.

    8. TVBFanatic says:

Disappointing… would love to see Dayo in another series sooner than later.

    9. Anna says:

Yeah Dayo should just stick with stand up comedy. It’s not like he’s a bad actor, but he doesn’t bring the “WOW” factor either in a series.
I watched his live show “Shower” in SF and he was a good comedian.

    10. Rsy says:

what jacket is he waiting, it looks good

    11. iawnaek says:

With all the work that had been done to her face I doubt Carol can ever act again!
