The Entertainment Industry Saved Linda Chung
Linda Chung (鍾嘉欣) never thought she would become an entertainer. Before she competed for the Miss Chinese International Pageant in 2004, which subsequently paved the road for Linda’s stardom as a TVB actress, Linda was an university sophomore majoring in education. Linda always believed that if she did not join the entertainment industry, she would be working as a teacher with her two best friends. An English or biology teacher, to be exact.
Before joining the industry, Linda said she was a coward, being very shy and lacked confidence. She would rather spend her free time at home than to catch up with friends at a hang-out. She was afraid of meeting new people and did not have much of an engaging social life. But the industry changed her.
“Thank goodness I’ve joined this industry, because it saved me! I’ve learned to see the world in a new light. I get to experience new things. I’ve become more enlightened and more confident. I’ve discovered that I actually did have some talent when it comes to singing and acting, but what’s most important is that I wasn’t as introverted as before!”
Strong Family Ties
The industry also saved Linda’s family. Linda’s relationship with her family was never strained to begin with, but being half a world apart from each other really helped bring her family closer together.
“I relied on my parents a lot when I was younger, and they looked after me very closely. I used to report to them what I did for the day, where I went and what I ate. I would tell them my entire schedule.”
Her parents’ tight supervision led Linda to become too dependent on her family. With an elder brother and elder sister who were also very protective, Linda’s life was too safe, too boring, and unsatisfying. Believing that more independence would be good for Linda, her parents quickly learned to stop asking questions after Linda went to Hong Kong. They have learned to let her go, and Linda is grateful for that. Linda continues to have heart-to-heart conversations with her elder sister and the family has only cherished each other more.
Best Actress Award
Currently starring in Brother’s Keeper <巨輪>, Linda is a hot contender for this year’s Best Actress race. Most of the praises commended Linda’s credible nineties look and her convincing chemistry with male lead Ruco Chan (陳展鵬).
“Maybe I will have a chance and maybe I won’t, but as long as I’ve enjoyed my work, I think I have gained something. It is difficult to earn an opportunity to participate in a production that has heart. I actually think that all will be well as long as I’ve been happy. I once believed that I could only be very happy when I win that award, but my efforts should not be represented in a single night. I have worked hard for the past nine years! But I am very confident with this role. I am ready [to win]!”

I want Linda to win but not for Brother’s Keeper. She did not perform well as Rachel which was OTT and the character herself is someone I absolutely detest up until the latest episode. So sorry Linda, not you. Esther to win but she won’t get it.

Esther is an experienced veteran actress. Her acting is unquestionable. It’s about time her work is being awarded. But we all know it’s highly unlikely.

Kristal Tin won’t win because she is not ‘hot property’ on TVB radar.
TVB aims for those with money potential, and on that alone, it means the award is pre-determined.

The media is the one who is pushing Linda as the front runner for this year’s TVB BA. Many times what celebrities say/meant isn’t exactly what winds up in print.
The media do have bad sense of who are good in acting
The media always writes good things of who they like and vice versa. They are also carefully not to offense those who are “influential “. Everyone knows it. Celebrities always try to be friendly to the media.
When Silver Spoons was airing last year, everyone was criticizing her acting that it was not impressive. She was also hyped to win the BA award.
Once she did win, majority of people forgot about her performance and were just genuinely happy for Tavia for becoming TV Queen. I think it was a similar scenario for Myolie in Royal Harem.
When Linda wins this year, it’ll be the same.
To a certain extent I do agree, because I do think most people felt that it was tavia’s time to win rather than because of her SSSS performance. I thought her other performances in other series were better and deserved BA rather than her role in SSSS tbh. IMO, Tavia can definitely act though and has proved that her acting level is BA standards, but she was just awarded not for her specific performance in SSSS, but rather her overall acting ability imo.
But with Linda, I don’t feel it is her time to win at all. Her overall acting is just so-so for me, it’s been just steadily pacing through the years all along. I cant really pick a role she played in that really wowed me and would make me immediately think of it as a BA performance. She has definitely improved from since she first started, but she hasnt hit a high yet. Not sure if it’s because she pretty must plays very similar roles that makes me feel like that about her acting…but BA? Definitely a no from me for now.

Probably. People know the game and since TVB will ignore older, more talented and likely more deserving actresses, it might as well be Linda since she’s the only fa dan left who haven’t won. Except from Kate. So the media will hype it up to be between Kate and Linda, and b/c Linda has been leading shows longer, she will win.
But that’s still not a reason for giving it to a person who doesn’t deserves it. I don’t really care for the past awards she got for her singing, but seriously I can say that she’s not good in acting.
I don’t agree Linda has been leading longer. Arguably Kate has been leading longer (The Price of Greed in 2006), whereas Linda’s first lead is Best Bet in 2007. I would say they’re leading for about the same time, but to me, Kate’s acting is much better than Linda’s. So if anyone, it should be Kate first.
^ But, in TVB’s world, seniority also plays a factor. Linda started before Kate and she also seemed more favor.
It does seem like Linda is the more favoured one. I think she has it the easiest out of the current fadans. But in saying that I’m not blowing down the fact that she has worked hard to where she is now. Seniority may play a factor, but I wouldnt say that it’s the main and only factor.

She singing isn’t the best, but I’ve noticed it is slightly better ever since I first heard her singing live on television. I couldnt believe my ears how different she sounded from that of her recorde studio version of her songs lol. But her voice is bearable now imo.
I guess she could say she rather had discovered she had the passion singing lol. Acting wise I think it’ll take a lot of time before she’s a true gem. There are many whose been in the industry for more than 9 and 30 years, underrated and uncredited for their true outstanding acting skills. She’s jumping ahead of herself when she does she say she’s ready to win. Confidence is good though lol.

Linda is an actress with lots of potential but it’s a pity she’s been miscasted most of the time including her role as Rachel, I’m more looking forward to her role in Tiger Cubs 2. If she were to win the award, it just can’t be for Rachel…it’s a good series but her role is probably one of her worst ones.

Fala nad Kate has not either. However, all of them got awards over the years. She still needs to wait for a few terms. Hopefully by 2016. Not this year. Tavia ha a 90% chance of winning. Its not about weather she deserves another term, but shes the one that is left compared to the other actresses this year.
Kate has one last chance with her upcoming drama-but its uncertain. As for next year, if Myolie does well in Rosy 3, she will win. I see tavia and myolie taking tunes a couple times before the others get a chance. Tavia also has a series with steven next year that seems to be a high production. Myo vs tav next year
I don’t see either of them winning again until Kate and Linda gets it since they don’t want one big fadan, like when it was just Charmaine. They want to make it seem like these 4 (or 5 if Fala was still there) are the top 4 female leads at tvb.

Ruco missed out on the chance? LOL, how do you even know Linda is his ‘type’ of girl in the first place. Being a sweet girlfriend may not be the ideal cup of tea for every guy.
Linda BB is just plain boring. I’d much rather be with someone outspoken, rash, crude, funny, and unsweet…at the very least it’ll be more fun.
I support Linda’s singing and acting but I really want TVB to take in the other actresses’ performances in other drama series as well. Eg. Esther Kwan, Joey Meng, etc.
I don’t think her acting is that great tbh, but I think her singing is alright. And yea, it sucks to have overprotective parents, so I know how she feels 100%. But i’m not exactly “introvert” though…just less outgoing because my mom has always been afraid I might get raped or kidnapped if I hang out with people…yeah (roll eyes). I’m totally rooting for Linda.

If there is a supporting category I will say kristal should go there, less competition.
Kristal Tin did a great awesome job in this series, I like her fierce combativity tomboyish personality. Although, she probably won’t win any rewards this year…again.

I agree, in this series, this Kristal or whatever her name is def is more refreshing to watch. Linda’s character is just annoying, apart from her speaking English, she’s just not leading material I am sorry. Even that shameless woman is more interesting to watch than she is.

Linda has always said she wanted to do villain roles. Perhaps her manager or the company only lets her do these roles to save her image, which really sucks because she has done different roles in the past and she had breakthroughs in them. Such as A Journey Called Life, Gem of Life, so on. If TVB would give her a chance to do different roles then she could evidently change our minds about her acting. We will all open our eyes to next year’s Tiger Cubs 2.
She did have a villain roles in House of Harmony and Vengeance, which fail miserably.
Her acting is really not up to level. Even Nancy Wu and Kristal acts better than Linda.
I can’t see her playing a villain. I know its not her fault for which roles she gets to play. But she is realllllllllly bland and dull. Her characters are very much the same. The sweet, kind hearted girl. And even if she does get the chance to become the antagonist, doubt she’ll do a good job. Other actresses do a much better job than she does – no offence.
I was appalled that Tavia won BA, her acting has never been outstanding- the role where she had to play that evil empress was so OTT. Her villain roles were like ones from a Disney movie- simply unbelievable. Actresses like Esther Kwan (although her recent drama was average), Elena Kong and even Mandy Wong are better than Tavia, Fala and all the rest so-called fadans.
But atleast Tavia is a much better actor than Linda when it comes to acting, especially being the antagonist.
I don’t mind Tavia playing supporting roles but as a main character I find her boring and lacking in stage presence.
I agree that Linda doesn’t play her roles that well despite the fact that she plays the same ones over and over again. She’s also way too tall to play the damsel in distress roles and it’s quite cringe-worthy when she tries to act all cute and sweet.
I think Myolie is better than Tavia but her crying scenes are a bit annoying to watch. Myolie is also good in comedy roles …

Tbh, Linda is a “okay actress” All her character has been the same. So whenever I see her, her character and acting is usually boring to me. I wish they’d give her some different role other than being that shy and goodie good character all the time. My favourite actress among her, Tavia, Myolie and Kate would be Kate. Which is funny since it seems like a lot of people don’t like her. But I always find her acting pretty addicting. It’s easy to be drawn into her (imo). Only wish she would stop playing as a cop though. She’s good, but getting bored of that too lol.

Kristal should replace Linda as female lead in BK. Rachel character is just annoying, boring and uninteresting. Don’t even think she can make it to top 5, but due to her relationship with tvb, she can very easily make it although her acting isn’t up to tv queen standards. This is disappointing for actresses who can actually act like Nancy or Kristal

As long as it’s either Linda Chung, Kristal Tin or Esther Kwan. I doubt it’s Esther, even though her acting was incredibly good, since it feels like she doesn’t even “need” it. Pretty sure Esther won’t move to other stations, end up in bad terms with TVB or promote herself like the other two does. For exemple, Linda chung as a best actress would be more profitable to TVB than Esther Kwan or Kristal Tin. I know that Best actress is supposed to be given to the actress that had the most outstanding acting but too bad, that’s not how TVB rolls.
She is definitely good in BK but Kristal outshines her! It’s sad that it’s highly unlikely that Kristal will win though. :\
Although I really like Linda and she is the reason why I watch Brother’s Keeper. Her performance is not so good here. It can be better and needs improvement. Her fellow co-star Ying is really good. She felt real life and not just an actress portraying her. Saw her in an old pagenat series before and she was great. Think she was the evil girl right? However, Rucco is pretty good in acting. Ankie definitely needs more acting training.

I like Linda but I don’t think she should win for BK. If anything, Krystal should be the one winning for BK. I feel the best actress category is quite open. No one really stands out that much and have any momentum right now. I don’t think Linda should win but I can see it happening this year.

I think best performance of the year for otherwise bland series goes to Joey Meng for Change of Heart. Esther Kwan was great in her series and not stiff at all for someone is returning from acting hiatus.
Krystal Tin outshines Linda Chung in BK. Found her parts to be heartwarming and funny. I suppose they are juxtaposed as polar opposites: rich, privileged, whines, protective of self, illigetimate vs. Middle class, protective of family, yells, less schooling.
Maybe Linda seems weaker because she doesn’t play her role hard enough? Not sure what it is.
