Hubert Wu Searches for His Wife’s Kidnapper in Youth Mystery “Wife Interrupted”

Actor-singer Hubert Wu (胡鴻鈞) is carrying the lead mantle for the first time in the upcoming TVB drama Wife Interrupted <救妻同學會>, playing a young husband who goes back in time to search for clues behind the kidnapping of his wife, played by Moon Lau (劉佩玥). He runs back into his old roommates and classmates, including his then-close friend (Alvin Ng 伍富橋) and an old crush (Ashley Chu 朱智賢).

Premiering on November 25, the 20-episode series will air once a week, two hours at a time. With bright hopes for the future, Lee Yan-long’s (Hubert) dreams came to a halt when his wife Jill (Moon) got kidnapped around Christmas. Long soon discovers that the suspect may be one of his old roommates from college.

The main cast of Wife Interrupted comprises of youthful newcomers of the Hong Kong industry. Producer Kwan Shu-ming (關樹明) said he hopes the drama would be able to invoke feelings of innocent youth in viewers—the more struggles one would come across in the real world, the more nostalgic one would feel about the innocence of youth.

On the casting of Hubert and Moon as the lead characters, Producer Kwan said, “It is what the fans wanted. Hubert and Moon have collaborated numerous time, and many fans have said they would like to see them as a married  couple! Moon is an actor with a lot of energy. Once she understands the role, she would be able to perform with accuracy.”

Meiki Wong and Virginia Lau

Wife Interrupted will be heavily promoted on social media, and fans themselves would get the opportunity to choose different versions of the show to air on TV and online.

Besides Hubert and Moon, the rest of the main cast is carried by fresh faces, including rookie singer Alvin Ng and former child actress Meiki Wong (黃美棋), best known for playing the younger versions of many TVB characters, including Perish in the Name of Love’s <帝女花> Princess Changping. Wife Interrupted is the 29-year-old’s first TVB drama in 12 years.

“A lot of the cast were chosen through auditions,” shared the producer. “I’m very pleased with the results. This is also a good opportunity for these artistes to try something new. For example, Jarryd Tam (譚永浩) who came from a hosting background plays a flirty man, and Telford Wong (黃庭鋒) plays a stingy coward. Virginia Lau (劉溫馨) plays an otaku. We also have rookie film actor Kyle Li (李任燊) in the cast. I’m positive that they will be able to bring something new and different for viewers.”

  2. Moon Lau is probably the only new miss hk that can actually bring a character alive. I’m excited to watch thow show. Hubert!!!

  3. Excited for this! Big fan of both Hubert and Moon – they are definitely promising among the younger bunch. Moon can hold her own with veterans as well. Hubert continues to surprise me with both his musical talents and his natural acting. Among the other youngsters, I do find Virginia good aside from her accent. Also wish that Arnold Kwok had one of the lead roles but maybe he looks a tad too mature to play the uni day’s flashbacks now?
