“Of Greed and Ants” Receives 2 Billion Views

Starring Eddie Cheung (張兆輝), Edwin Siu (蕭正楠), Tony Hung (洪永城), and Elaine Yiu (姚子羚), TVB drama Of Greed and Ants <黃金有罪> is airing to remarkable reception. In Mainland China, the series is currently drawing in a cumulative viewership of over 2 billion views. Perhaps due to the coronavirus outbreak, many are choosing to stay indoors rather than risk any potential infections when outdoors.

At the beginning of the month, when the coronavirus epidemic was just starting, Eddie traveled to Wuhan to attend an event. Unaware of the rising health crisis while he was there, Eddie recalled that he did not notice anything out of the norm. When he finally did find out about the outbreak, he was quick to take precautionary measures, including wearing a face mask and increasing the number of times he washed his hands.

Eddie has initially intended to travel to Italy with his family for vacation, but quickly learned that Italy has issued a ban on all incoming flights from China, including Hong Kong. Already halfway there, Eddie quickly booked a return flight during his layover and traveled back to Hong Kong.

Earlier, it was also reported that a TVB employee threw up while at work. TVB quickly reacted by sending the employee to the hospital and conducting a thorough disinfecting cleanup of the area. When asked on his outlook of the situation, Eddie confidently urged others not to panic, as Hong Kong netizens have previously dealt with the SARS pandemic and are experienced when it comes to taking precautions.

  1. i like the drama. might be the first time seeing ben wong as villian, he’s surprisingly good. he’s a very convincing good guy and got the good guy look also. but his portrayal of the weak, greedy, cunning and cheater husband was something i’d never imagined him in. eddie cheung is also outstanding btw, both handsome and good acting.

  2. with people going out less along travel ban and economy going downhill, TVB no surprise is gaining more viewers as of late… the situation is not looking any better too, wish them all the best

  3. Probably the best drama since Barack O’Karma aired last year. Has a solid cast (even supporting characters are well developed) and the setting in 80s HK really helps to move the plot along.

  4. TVB can achieve high ratings only when China gets hit with a public health scare.

    Sad.

Exactly and I was going to say the same thing. It is incredibly sad that Tvb is only getting high series due to the Coronavirus so no one is allowed to go out. Therefore, they can only stay home and one of the only things they can do is watch series.

  5. Reason for good viewership ratings:
    1) Outbreak of Coronavirus ………… more people stay at home to watch free TVB drama series

    2) The cast of this drama series is good and most artistes know how to act well, like Eddie Cheung and Ben Wong.

Exactly and it is sad that this series is only getting viewership due to the Coronavirus stuff. Sad…Yes, the cast is good but how is the plot and all as there is way more to any series rather than the cast.

  6. I wish they didn’t cast Tony Hung in the drama. Eddie, Ben and Edwin were great but Tony was horrible.

Who do u think would suit the role ar? There’s no one in tvb la. U see Tony everywhere. In a few years he will be getting best actor whether u like it or not. I bet the fadan will be someone u barely know now too.

      1. @m0m0
Tony can’t act. There are many second line actors who can act better and physically more pleasing to the eye. Stephen Wong comes to mind that should be promoted more by TVB.

      2. @jane626
yeah, but it is who you know. i agree stephen wong would be great and i’d like to see more of him but he probably doesn’t have good connections. given his looks, he could have been a lead ions ago if he had the right connection.

  7. The terrible wigs the guys wore make it difficult for me to watch this drama. Also it felt very uncomfortable to watch Eddie act as a young guy. He looked almost as old as John Chiang who acted as his dad and he’s too old to pair with Elaine. Poor her but I guess a small consolation is that at least he looks better than Dominic Lam who was her love interest in another drama lol.
