Selena Lee Unable to Return to HK Before Canada Closes Its Borders

The United States and Canada announced on Tuesday that they will be restricting non-essential travel across borders in order to curb the spread of the coronavirus.

Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau also urged all Canadians who are currently overseas to return home as soon as possible.

Canada’s border closures have affected many production studios that are currently filming in Canada, including the Chinese Canadian television series Blood and Water, which also stars Selena Lee (李施嬅).

The 39-year-old actress shared on social media that the show has completely stopped production, and that all cast and crew have returned home for self-quarantine and isolation. Selena did attempt to purchase a flight back home to Hong Kong, but the earliest she can fly home is March 29th.

Though stuck in Canada, the actress is doing well. The Forensic Heroes IV <法證先鋒IV> uploaded a few trailer pictures from her Blood and Water set in Canada, and wrote, “Although we only have two weeks left of filming, it’s important to stop now to protect everyone’s health. We don’t know when we’ll come back, but when we do we will be stronger.”

Hong Kong reporters reached out to Selena by phone, who said, “Right now I’m stuck in this little town. Many actors have already gone home, except me. I’ve been trying to find flights to go back to Hong Kong, but all the flights from Toronto and Vancouver are completely booked.”

Selena reassured that the COVID-19 situation in Canada is not as serious as the United States, but people are on stand-by. “We are getting concerned. Many stores have closed and quite a lot of people are panic buying toilet paper.”

Fortunately, Selena has family in Canada. “My next step now will be to visit them,” she said. She then apologized to the cast of Forensic Heroes IV for being unable to return to Hong Kong in time to help them promote the series. “As an actor it is my responsibility, but there’s nothing I can do at this point in time. Even if I do return to Hong Kong, I’ll have to self-quarantine for 14 days.”
