Bowie Cheung’s Father Gives Generous HK$40 Million Dowry

Benjamin Yuen (袁偉豪) and Bowie Cheung (張寶兒) began their relationship in 2017 after filming the travel show, All Work No Pay Holidays <打工捱世界>. Although the couple’s relationship was initially met with skepticism due to Benjamin’s short-lived relationship with Jennifer Shum (岑杏賢), they proved others wrong as they made solid steps towards marriage at the end of the year.

Throughout their three-year relationship, Benjamin and Bowie were rumored to be tying the knot. The couple recently purchased a new Clear Water Bay condo for $70 million Hong Kong dollars as they prepare for life together. The luxurious unit is 2,205 square feet in size and has both indoor and outdoor pool facilities.

While Benjamin is a popular TVB artiste and generates good income from advertisement endorsements, his new home came with an enormous price tag that astounded many people. It turns out that Bowie’s parents, who are reportedly extremely fond of Benjamin, helped the couple pay for the HK$40 million down payment, but requested the actor to complete mortgage payments for one year before getting married.

The dowry is generous by any standards, but will make a small dent in Bowie’s father Cheung Wong Wong‘s (張煌煌) wealth. Owning a thriving lingerie company, his real estate assets alone are valued at HK$300 million.

  1. Short-lived romance with Jennifer Shum? They lived together and went longer than 3 years.
Bowie supposedly gave him the freedom he never had and Jennifer couldn’t trust him…I am sorry, that’s literally the same reason but one is sugar-coated. And you sugar coat because your new girlfriend is 11 years younger and 11 times richer, plus it don’t hurt that she’s pretty.

    1. @jesspepperwang That was my very first thought too. I remember it was a couple of years as well. All I can say is what a damn ‘lucky’ guy he is. Girl is younger, richer and is actually quite cute and pretty and he’s not even that big or good looking. Some dudes have all the luck! lol

      1. @wm2017 I would say it comes down to values and circumstance and not luck. Ben values his “freedom” and a certain amount of materialistic wealth and superficial beauty (youth)–which is a very human desire. On the other hand, he probably has to do a little more babysitting with someone 11 years his junior and has to be more proper in certain ways to appease the wealthy father in law. It all balances out at the end though: Ben said he doesn’t like it when his mother “manages” him and his father already passed away (and this supposedly brought Ben and Bowie closer). I personally get a weird vibe from this guy, but do like his acting. It’s like Joel Chan, he left his first wife for a casino tycoon’s daughter and messed up enough, so cleaned up his act. From time to time, you do, however, sense something a little “ill-intending?”

      2. @jesspepperwang Well, “babysitting” isn’t going to give him any freedom but I guess, you can’t have the whole cake and eat it. Either you work your ass off (like some veteran celebrities during their younger days) or marry rich (which is what Ben had chosen). It is just an instant gratification vs delayed gratification trade off.
