Park Bo Gum to Join Military Service Without Fanfare

Although it is customary in South Korea for fans to host a grand send-off when their idols enlist for mandatory military service, Hallyu artiste Park Go Bum is asking fans to not gather for his enlistment in light of the country’s surging COVID-19 cases.

Park Bo Gum’s agency has confirmed that the artiste plans to quietly join the navy on August 31, but the agency will not disclose the enlistment time and location in wishes to avoid a large number fans gathering together. Asking for fans’ understanding and cooperation during this difficult time, the agency urged fans to show their support through their hearts, and to avoid approaching Park Bo Gum’s enlistment site.

The agency’s request was announced just as Park Bo Gum cancelled all his promotional activities for his upcoming drama Record of Youth because of the COVID-19 pandemic. With Park Bo Gum’s schedule cleared up, the artiste will be taking a well-deserved break before starting his military service.

Record of Youth, starring Park Bo Gum and Parasite actress Park So Dam, is a story about chasing dreams and overcoming struggles. The drama will stream on Netflix on September 7.
