Park Bo Gum Chosen as 2025 Hanbok Wave Ambassador

When Life Gives You Tangerines’ Park Bo Gum has been selected as the first Hallyu actor to participate in the 2025 Hanbok WAVE project. He will collaborate with four brands to showcase the elegance and dignity of the hanbok to the world. The Hanbok WAVE project, jointly promoted by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism and the Korea Craft & Design Foundation, aims to foster collaboration between hanbok companies and Hallyu cultural artistes. This year marks the sixth year of the project.

Until now, the project has mainly focused on women’s hanbok. Kim Yuna, Suzy, and Kim Tae Ri previously served as ambassadors in 2022, 2023, and 2024 respectively. For the first time, a male artist has been chosen as the sole partner to highlight the versatility and diversity of hanbok.

From April 15 to May 9, the organizers accepted proposals from businesses to present new creative ideas for the male hanbok to dress Park Bo Gum. The recruitment targeted small and medium-sized companies in the hanbok sector. Final selections will be based on creativity, professionalism, feasibility, and expected impact. Four companies will be chosen to develop hanbok designs that fuse Park Bo Gum’s image with symbolic hanbok aesthetics. These works will be showcased through digital billboards and major fashion magazines in global cities such as Seoul, New York, Paris, and Milan.

Lee Jung Woo, Director of the Culture and Arts Policy Office at the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism, stated, “As Korean content spreads globally, there is also growing interest in the hanbok. Overseas fans are responding enthusiastically to hanbok through dramas, variety shows, and international events. Through collaborations with Hallyu artists, we hope to present hanbok content that balances traditional beauty and modernism, making hanbok a representative cultural heritage of Korea that everyone around the world can enjoy.”
