Brian Chu on TVB Best Supporting Actor Nomination

With the 2021 TVB Anniversary Awards taking place on January 2, many artistes are hopeful that they can cap off the year by winning an award as a recognition of their hard efforts. TVB announced the Top Five in the Best Supporting Actor and Actress categories, with Brian Chu (朱敏瀚) and Regina Ho (何依婷) being prominent nominees.

Displaying his versality, Brian won Most Improved Actor in 2020. While many believe he will have a lucky streak for the second year and win Best Supporting Actor for his performance in Take Two <換命真相>, the 29-year-old is approaching the awards with a calm mindset.

Happy to win the hearts of viewers, Brian believes when people call him by his character name on the streets, “It is better than any award. I want to play more diverse roles.”

Brian said, “I think everyone in the Top Five are worthy of winning Best Supporting Actor and Actress. I want to vote for Hugo Wong (黃子衡) and Jonathan Cheung (張頴康), because they are professionals in the field. If there is a third ballot, I will then vote for myself.”

Other nominees for Best Supporting Actor include: Him Law (羅子溢) for Kids’ Lives Matter <星空下的仁醫>, and Tyson Chak (泰臣) for AI Romantic <智能愛人>.

Hugo Wong Recognized for “The Ringmaster”

Aired during ViuTV’s popular reality music competition King Maker 4 <全民造星IV>, The Ringmaster‘s <拳王> viewership ratings were only in the teens. However, it was still regarded as a quality drama with strong cast performances.

Recognized for his acting in The Ringmaster, Hugo Wong’s heart has been racing ever since the nomination results were released. Although he has confidence, he admits that his competition are all very strong, “It is happy news no matter who gets the award. I personally really like Tyson Chak, because he was able to portray a robot with so much depth and emotion.”

Regina Are Also in the Running

The Top Five in the Best Supporting Actress category are: Lesley Chiang (姜麗文) for Come Home Love: Lo and Behold <愛‧回家之開心速遞>; Yoyo Chen (陳自瑤) for Plan “B” <寶寶大過天>; Moon Lau (劉佩玥) for Take Two <換命真相>;  Mayanne Mak (麥美恩) for AI Romantic; and Regina Ho (何依婷) for Kids’ Lives Matter.

Already a hot favorite for Most Improved Actress, Regina is surprised to have also made it into the Top Five for Best Supporting Actress, which she sees as already rewarding enough. “The awards are up to fate, so it is really hard to win. I am also rooting for Yoyo Chen and Moon Lau!

  1. Voting for Moon Lau myself, she was brilliant in Take Two. As for male SBA it’s really a stiff one, I’d probably go for Brian since Hugo’s character was pretty one dimensional in Ringmaster.

  2. Surprised to see Hugo wong making a come back after the scandal. Thought they would not use him anymore. Both Hugo and Jonathan are decent actors though.

  3. I hope Hugo wins. He had more screen presence than Owen the lead for goodness sakes.Yoyo will probably win it for BSA. BA Linda and Shaun because Owen’s character was such a let down. And did everyone forget about The Forgotten Day? It was probably my fav drama this year besides Beauty and the Boss.
