Xiao Zhan Returns to White Coat in “The Flying Doctors”

After achieving high viewership with his period drama The Legend of Hidden Sea <藏海传>, Chinese actor Xiao Zhan (肖战) has entered the filming stage of his new project The Flying Doctors <小城良方>.

Supported by An Experienced Cast

He recently wrapped production on the spy drama SpyING <谍报上不封顶> and has now jumped straight into this next role. Slated to portray a genius doctor named Liu Zhengliang according to reports, the role will mark his return to a white coat three years after The Oath of Love <余生,请多指教>, thus stirring up fans’ fond memories of his handsome doctor character, Gu Wei.

The Flying Doctors is adapted from author Liu Sanshu’s (刘三叔) novel of the same name. The story follows Liu Zhengliang as he returns to his hometown to start anew after hitting a low point in both his career and personal life. He forms a team of “problem-prone” individuals and uses medical expertise and heartfelt compassion to offer “life prescriptions” that heal the soul amid the vibrant and down-to-earth rhythms of small-town life.

The drama boasts a strong cast, including veteran actor Ni Dahong (倪大红), Magnolia Award–winning Best Supporting Actress Jiang Yan (姜妍), as well as Jiang Renzhi (菅纫姿), Zhang Guoqiang (张国强), Shi Pengyuan (史彭元), Wang Yanlin (王彦霖), and other seasoned performers.

Ni Dahong plays a former hospital director suffering from Alzheimer’s, with flashbacks revealing the evolution of the medical system; Jiang Yan plays a funeral-industry business owner who develops a “younger man–older woman” romance arc with Xiao Zhan’s character.

To portray his character more convincingly, Xiao Zhan has reportedly dropped 7.5kg or 15kg within a short span of two weeks, once again impressing fans with his self-discipline.
