Dayo Wong and Sammi Cheng’s “Night King” Breaks Box Office Records

Starring comedy king Dayo Wong (黃子華) and Cantopop queen Sammi Cheng (鄭秀文), Lunar New Year film Night King (夜王) is a box office hit. Since opening on February 17^th, the film grossed over $82 million Hong Kong dollars to-date, becoming the fifth-highest grossing domestic film of all time.

Night King’s success has gone global as well, with preview screenings in Malaysia, North America, the United Kingdom, and Europe.

Director Jack Ng (吳煒倫) said, “I’m very happy audiences like The Night King. Recently, I’ve seen many viewers posting reviews and praise online. I’m truly grateful. I hope everyone enjoys the movie and takes away some courage and spirit, continuing to fight for your life in the Year of the Horse and charge forward again!”

After nonstop promotions, Sammi spent the holiday watching the film with her family. She shared, “From filming to the recent intense promotional period, every memory is still vivid. Step by step, every moment stays in my heart. [The cast] sincerely thanks every single person who came to watch. This movie is our collective creation.”

Fish Liew (廖子妤), who stars as mamas “Mimi,” revealed fans are already asking for a sequel. Actor Siuyea Lo (盧鎮業) said the exhausting shoot now “feels worth it.” Breakout newcomer Kay Choi (蔡蕙琪) also caught media attention and humbly said, “The first thing I want to say is thank you to director Jack, producer Ivy, and the publicity team. Without them, the character ‘Kwai Fong’ wouldn’t exist. I’m grateful this role has become a small milestone for me. With the movie performing well, I hope Night King continues breaking records!”
