Angel Chiang to Star in Patrick Kong’s Romantic Comedy

Popular romantic comedy film director, Patrick Kong (葉念琛), is finally back on his filming agenda again. The Natural Born Lovers <天生愛情狂> director first revealed the new project in early January 2013 through his Weibo. Patrick refused to disclose any further details about the secretive production, only revealing that the male and female leads are newcomers.

The new romantic comedy film, titled Movie’s First Was Not Yours <電影第一次不是你>, had several round of private casting calls last year. Patrick chose to keep the casting news under tight wraps, expressing that he did not want the publicity to affect the performances of the leading characters, all portrayed by rookie actors. Patrick also ordered the remaining cast and crew to swear their secrecy on the project.

The newcomer lead stars, however, will be supported by a string of well-known supporting actors, including Koo Ming Wah (古明華), Lo Hoi Pang (盧海鵬), Kiki Sheung (商天娥), and Elena Kong (江美儀), all portraying the leads’ parents. Sharon Chan (陳敏之), Luisa Maria Leitão (黎芷珊), Shiga Lin (連詩雅), and Bob will also be making guest appearances in unknown roles.

Yesterday, the Hong Kong press reported that the film’s female lead is young TVB actress Angel Chiang (蔣家旻), the star of TVB’s ongoing sitcom Come Home Love <愛·回家>. Angel became a TVB-contracted artist after auditioning for TVB in 2006.

Aside from her starring role as Tracy in Come Home Love, Angel is best known for portraying the younger Charmaine Sheh (佘詩曼) in the critically acclaimed television drama When Heaven Burns <天與地>.

Asked if she is currently working on Patrick’s new film in a phone interview, Angel expressed that it is currently inconvenient to comment.

As for the male lead, rumors indicate that it is 27-year-old newcomer Edward Ma (馬志威), who joined the entertainment industry last year after signing with a modeling agency. Edward, a “love child” of Shawn Yue (余文樂) and Kelvin Kwan (關楚耀), has starred in numerous commercials and music videos in the past five months.

  1. Wow congratulations to Angel! She has been working with TVB for a while and hasn’t gotten any meaty roles!

  2. “Edward, a 「love child」 of Shawn Yue (余文樂) and Kelvin Kwan (關楚耀), ”

Can someone explain to me what this part of the article means… Shawn Yue and Kelvin Kwan are both young make actors right?!

    1. I think it means that he looks like the mix of Shawn and Kelvin.

  3. I don’t think I can handle hearing her voice too long, no offense.

      1. I don’treally like Christine nor Eliza..but they are MUCH better and prettier than Angel. And Angel does not look like a lead at all..

  4. OMG ew I hate her so much >:( Why is she everywhere…stop promoting her -__- Shes UGLY and her voice is annoying too. plus she’s a bad actress..

    1. wth!!!!!! Ugly is not a crime!!! Everyone has his/her potential and talents not their looksSSSSSSSS

    2. definitely agree with that! acting skill bad and annoying.
tvb keeps promoting her. she got connection with tvb i guessed.

  5. I don’t know why people complain about Angel’s voice (and Grace’s). Although it isn’t music to your ears, it isn’t grating. And she’s definitely not ugly. She looks pretty cute. TVB should let her play roles that doesn’t require her to be a brat or some annoying girl, much like Cilla Kung. I think Cilla is pretty good at playing emotional roles… I think she’s been learning from Linda since they’ve collaborated more than, what, 5 times?

Anyway, congrats to Angel for gaining a lead role for a movie! 😀

  6. On the contrary, I think Angel has the qualities to be lead actress. She is definitely not ugly and with time, experience and maturity, she will bloom. A lot of fadans started out looking plain too. However, in this industry, a lot will depend on luck, connections and opportunities given.

  7. She looks naturally pretty. Those people who are quick to call others ugly must have thought highly of their looks. If they don’t have good looks then they shouldn’t wound people who are like them. If they have good looks then they should be thankful and cultivate inner beauty.

  8. Nothing wrong with her looks and voice. She actually reminds me of Tavia.

Wish she’d work on her Cantonese though. Too many ‘lazy tones.’
