“Young and Dangerous: Reloaded” Criticized for Little Known Cast

When it was announced that Him Law (羅仲謙), Oscar Leung (梁烈唯), and Jazz Lam (林子善) were to star in the upcoming remake of the Young and Dangerous <古惑仔> film series, Hong Kong netizens slammed the film for having a “kelefe” cast, a Cantonese term for a film extra or someone who is of insignificant importance.

Oscar Leung is strongly against the new nickname, and said, “There is only grayness and blackness in the world of the Internet. They criticize everything, and they are unable to see the beauty of the real world. I am a very straightforward and forthright person. If they say we are kelefe, then that means that all extra actors deserve our respect! We cannot stop those who criticize us on the Internet, but their words do not affect us. Those who dislike us better not watch the film. After all, they will criticize the film whether or not they watch it. We want constructive criticism, not abuse.”

Oscar is Not the Best

As the biggest breakout star of 2012, and the winner of this year’s Most Improved Actor award, Oscar admitted that his confidence has grown immensely. “But confidence does not equate to arrogance,” Oscar said firmly. “All actors must be confidence in themselves, if not, how will they be able to act in front of so many people? Having confidence in myself does not mean that I am the best!  When I am well-prepared and engrossed with my work, I discover chances of improvement, and that gives me confidence. Having confidence does not mean that I find improvement unnecessary.”

Oscar’s confidence was tested when he had to film a sex scene with two other actresses in a faintly lit alleyway for Young and Dangerous: Reloaded <古惑仔:江湖新秩序>. “I spend a lot of time trying to talk myself into doing it. The hardest thing to master [for the scene] was the expressions. It was a pretty busy street, and I had a lot of people looking at me!”

Jacqueline Chong Likes Kissing Women

In Young and Dangerous: Reloaded, Oscar portrays the gangster Chicken, while Jacqueline Chong portrays Lam Suk Fan, Chicken’s best friend. Although Fan is a lesbian, there is unresolved sexual tension between her and Chicken.

Jacqueline revealed that she gets to kiss several girls in the film, and said, “It was my first onscreen kiss. The feeling is quite good. I think it would be more awkward if I had to kiss a man! Kissing someone of the same sex is less embarrassing. I’ve kissed some of my female friends before, so it isn’t a hard thing to do.”

  1. Oscar is becoming a little loud and vocal over everything now since the Kenny Wee incident.

    1. I honestly think like the internet opinions too based on the trailers and promotional pictures. The cast do have the kelefe aura and TVB face, but maybe the cat3 violent actions and se xual scenes will heat up the movie.

    2. oscar sucks i think tvb should look to promote a better looking bigger guy

  2. i think everyone should boycott and not watch any of ‘oscar kelefe’ shows, i for one will not and don’t intend to buy any products from that particular company if he is the spokes person, am not into low class bootlikers

  3. i think everyone should boycott and not watch any of ‘oscar kelefe’ show, i for one will not and don’t intend to buy any products from that particular company if he is the spokes person, am not into low class bootlikers

  4. Oh great. Jacqueline Chong? That girl is just living off of her daddy’s prestigious title and money. I see her make little appearances here and there in hk movies.

  5. although he isnt a ‘kelefe’ but compared with the big gun in the movieworld yes he is indeed a kelefe,so he had better silencing his voice a little.

    1. him law and oscar is infact kelefe. this movie is going to be flop

      1. Nah… There will be enough rape scenes to attract most TVB viewers to go see the movie.

        Remember, RAPE sells.

  6. I like Jazz Lam, typical Hongkey young and dangerous looks

Him Law and Oscar looks like born with golden spoon looks, no way looks like member of the triad

  7. why are everyone too quick to nitpick on everything?

this is a reboot movie. the idea is simple. just like what most american studios do. they reboot or remake their movie every say 10 years for the newer generations. look at hulk, superman, spiderman. no one complain the main lead is a nobody, maybe a few. it is simply becos of that reason, they all take a chance on them. cos using ‘known’ faces with not work for the franchise.

im not comparing Oscar or Him to those of the likes or the remake of this movie in par with those in hollywood. BUt thats wat a remake or reboot of an old movie for the newer generation is all about.

    1. because is reboot the audience expectation are high
They should have minimum actors from TV Station, unfamiliar faces will be nice as triad gangster

When watching Oscar, I will think of him as the King in The Confident , seeing Him Low think of him a good doctor in The Hippocratic Crush

Whatever, I will still watch this movie and hope I wont be disappointed

      1. Don’t forget Oscar and Him were SDU teammates in Tiger Cubs too. Now suddenly they turn undercover to gangsters haha.

  8. has anyone seen the trailer yet? movie looks like a tvb water down version of young and dangerous. a bunch of wannabe’s

    1. I did and that’s why I think the internet comments has grounds. The TVB aura is heavy there alhough Wong Jing makes this.

WJ promised that he will deliver extreme violences and sex ual scenes. I’m holding on to his words now.

    2. the trailer looks cool need to replace some of the actors with me and other guys

  9. Loud? Any words filtered through the media is loud. On a side note, if you do not speak up in the entertainment world, you will not survive and just be ambushed in every direction.

  10. HK netizens need to realize they need to cultivate a new generation of actors.

Has anyone seen recent photos of Stephen Chow? He looks 70…and he’s only 50!
Your Tony Leung Chi-Wai’s and Andy Lau Tak-Wah’s can’t take top billing forever. We need the new breed to help HK Cinema survive (or drag on its slow and agonizing death)

    1. what happen with ‘sing jeh’why do he look so old? i agree hk cinema really need new blood but i prefer raymond and bosco above him and oscar in young and dangerous.

      1. i disagree with you…i have nothing agaisnt raymond or bosco but i think oscar and him are better actors…and i’m talking about acting not popularity.

      2. Recent photos of Sing Jai have him sporting an unshaven look and greying hair with age-lines all over his face. He hasn’t aged as well as other people and this is probably due to overwork and the fact that some people just hit that age-wall really damn quick.

      3. The point is, we need to give young actors top billing, even though they might have enough experience or even if they don’t deserve it, so that they can become just as good as the older generation.

This can be done by bringing in veterans as supporting characters so they can learn off them.

This is the only thing that’s keeping me from hiring a squad of Thai contract killers to assassinate Wong Jing – he is the one of the few that has consistently nurtured upcoming stars by giving them movie roles.

Why do you think Andy Lau Tak-Wah never says no to WJ movies? Why do you think Fat Gor did that new movie with Huang Xiaoming?

The new YnD movie is going to make some money, and it’s also going to suck. But if this helps jumpstart a few people’s careers then it won’t matter in the short run.

      4. I disagree with “lol”. Oscar and Him have potential and should be nurtured more, but Raymond and Bosco are much better actors with more depth in their acting.

Having said that, I disagree with “shu” too. This type of movie is to promote the new and younger faces(whether they’re already appearing in 4 dramas a year in TV or not), while Raymond and Bosco are already starting in movies. Besides the characters don’t suit them anyway.

      5. Oscar is a crap. Good movie will feature well known actor / actress with 2nd liner actor/actress. This movie will be doom anywhere. Wont even spend a cent or time to watch this movie, even on trailer too. CZ12 and Last Tycoon are cery nice movies.

    2. yes, that’s why Hk movies are getting worst now cuz of the stupid netizens.

In comparision to Korean tv and movies. HK leading actors are always older than Korean leading actors. Korean New Generation are acting really well. We should give a chance to the HK new generations.

  11. Hong Kong movie suck. Perhaps, too much monopoly . Nothing creative at all. Fresh actors also like to talk crap, unbelievable. Action shud speak louder than word. Talk talk is useless, Oscar..

  12. I never cared much for HK movies or any Chinese movies for that matter. But I do think it’s stupid to call the cast kalefe. You can either have the same people lead shows or introduce new ones. This is a triad movie. Do people want to see 40-50 year olds being gangsters, doing drugs and making out? Different genres call for different kinds of actors.

    1. In HK they would. Just look at most of the “leading men” in HK movies and TV; their average age is “deceased”.

  13. Oscar really reminds me of Jordan in that picture!

I think the movie will flop because of the storyline rather than the young cast. All veterans have to start somewhere and we have to give them a chance to grow. W

Why don’t they just invent new characters to spice up the stopryline than making changes to establshed names? It just draws unwanted comparisons between the young casts and the classics.

  14. Man, so looking forward to this new revamp version but have to wait for the DVD…no theatre available here. BTW, do you guys know who the singer and song name that is in the trailer?
