2014 TVB Calendar

TVB unveiled its 2014 calendar last week, featuring its top stars in the sports-themed photo shoots.

The calendar theme was inspired by the upcoming 2014 FIFA World Cup Brazil, in which TVB will hold exclusive broadcasting rights. As Hong Kong residents are known to be passionate fans of the World Cup, TVB decided to showcase its artists’ vitality and energy in a different highlighted sport for each month.

The 2014 TVB calendar saw the return of the station’s icons such as Liza Wang, Carol Cheng, Eric Tsang, Nancy Sit, and Wayne Lai, as well as veteran stars, established stars, and more youthful rising artists.

      1. I love the November page, it is the best. Michael Miu is there, he should be more clearly pic….THANKS.

    1. Agree.
Joey Meng and Charmaine look the best in my view. Tavia’s pose is so odd, badly composed, she looks bad. The shaolin soccer copycat is just so so plastic looking.

  1. My favorite is October as it exudes warmth. The pairing of Bobby Au Yeung and Wayne Lai is brilliant.

February is quite festive and cheerful. The colors are vibrant and stand out.

The worst ones are June and December for the muddy dark tones.

    1. Agree. October pairing is fantastic! Second favorite is January.

    2. agree. October looks excellent. The dresses, ambiance and people look very nice.. July is just plain awkward.

  2. Too much filter!
I miss the old classy ones where their faces are easy to see!

    1. July Gymnastic Samantha Ko, Sharon Chan, and Shirley Yeung showing their long & slim legs! Sammy Leung should be in between this three lady

  3. Over photoshopped and some perspective is very very wrong. I especially dislike May not because it is terrible but because Jason is given prominence when he should be shifted to June with the elders and Ruco take his place. I fear for TVB’s future if Jason is to be promoted as leading man when he is still very very raw. Ok he is lousy. He really has no luck with props.

Most on point is December since photoshop effects give the entire thing (all months) the dreamy effect. I know it is sports theme but I can’t help but see balls, whips, and all. Like in May and how it is a woman juggling the balls and the men battling away at balls thrown at them.

I also like October, because it seems just about right and I like that Esther is there. However still too photoshopped.

    Worst is August.

    1. By the way, does anyone know whether the components of any month is taken separately which will explain the perspective problem or together but somehow TVB botched the perspective problem?

      1. Funn,
The artists most likely posed for the photos separately in cases where the entire group could not be arranged in one photo shoot.

Also, I find that the months where the artists likely posed in front of blue screens (with the background added later) had the worst lighting and photoshop. For January, August and November, the human figures were obviously cropped and pasted in a collage-like fashion.

      2. I think everyone in each group took the picture together since there are behind-the-scenes videos of some of a few months. The only person I know for sure that got photoshopped in is Liza Wang in November.

    2. Jason Chan looks good with his tennis racquet prop here. He’s here to stay…I think he has a high chance in winning Most Improved this year, as no other actor seems to be a position to win this award.

      1. He shouldn’t win because it proves a mockery of the award. There are others more deserving for most improved because his acting sucks. HE looks good but his body language is still somehow not convincing with holding the prop. I hate the fact that he is given prominence when he is a torture. He needs to be in the background a bit longer but since he is the Miss HK version of male actors, I suppose he will be stuffed down our throat until somehow he improves from terrible to bad. That’s the meaning of the award for him. Probably bad to not sucking too much.

  4. Charmaine Li is missing. I think she is one of the few supporting actresses who shows potential.

  5. I used to miss TVB’s calendars, but I’d rather see them invest that money into something else. What a waste!

  6. Yah i agree. the jan and august are the worse. they look so fake!

    1. Missing too are Raymond Cho, Joyce Tang, Christine Ng, Grace … just the few i didn’t spot.

      1. @ pandamao

Chris Lai is in April, he’s holding onto Tavia.

  7. I actually really like the calendar. There are a few months that look weird, but for the most part, I think it looks good. My favorite month is December- Elena Kong looks really cool with that pose in the middle.

  8. Feb (bowling) reminds me of Chinese New Year because it is all red…The April (baseketball) is so cute with edwin carrying tavia. July (Gymnastics)& December (Horse racing)look so messy and indeed the worst…

  9. Yay for Ada and Lawrence for being in the TVB calendar again, but boooo, why are they not standing next to each other?

  10. I just don’t like all of them. Some people’s head looks huge on their bodies like Louise Lee Si Kay and Rucco’s head looks huge. Why are they all dressed in evening gowns to do sports? at least play the part. They don’t have to dress in evening gowns or tux to make them look good. if they look good they they do. geez. some months have too much people in it. i’m the month of February and its all oldies. The first few months is like looking at their side faces the most. At least put a voting poll out there to ask for viewers opinions like which themes to choose and which pairings look best with each other. I think TVB is overdoing it. and i don’t like Samantha Ko, Flora Chan and Lawrence Ng. Why does it have to be all sports? it can be one month of sports, one month of islands, one month of a circus, another month of firefighters. Anything, cause they’re actors. Why just make them sit or stand there to look good??? Its like the society has to look good if not then you are nobody. To TVB: ask for viewers opinions first then make this overly photoshopped calendar.

  11. The photos shoot are in fact unique they blend those pictures into an oil painting form so it looks very unusual compared to the normal pictures.

  12. Best month — March — so elegant.
    Raymond as Prince Charming!
    LF Love FUNG!

  13. My favorite has to be October! Bobby looking so swag! On the other hand… March and August looks so awkward. Everyone looks so uncomfortable and unnatural haha.

  14. Saw the photos on a different site and some are ok, but it is so hard to see their faces. I really like the older calendars where their faces were easier to see and the designs were a lot more simple. Nowadays, to much retouching and photoshop just makes the pictures more and more fake looking.

  15. My favorite are September & October. Raymond, Myolie, Joey, Esther, They are so adorable.

    1. good question… I like her… wonder why TVB leaft her out?!

  16. Hahaha June and August look so bad, like those fake photoshop covers you get for pirated stuff in China. I wonder if they outsourced those to the mainland lol.

I like the idea, it was just so poorly executed on most months.
I also wonder why they didn’t just scrap/reshoot some months, since there are people in there that no longer have a contract or are not on the best terms with TVB.
Seems like every year it just gets worse with more bad photoshopping.

  17. I am just glad to see that some artist that are talented and never before or seldom featured in TVB calendar is in it like Florence Kwok (god, she deserve to be in this a long time ago).

And also some long time no see actors like Esther Kwan, Joey Meng, Ada Choi.

Also glad to see a lot of upcoming actors and actress included in the calendar.

As for the theme and design (ahem.. the extremely overuse of photoshop), well it is up to them.. for me I am just glad that I have a calendar to lay my eyes on and see that TVB have a vary of talented actor and actress.

BTW, March and September is my favourite.

  18. Its so…obvious that all the photo were truly photoshop it really stands out lor…….but the one i like the most

Oct is the best with Bobby Joey Esther Wayne and Flora Chan Michelle they should’ve put Roger Kwok in the group instead of Nancy Wu

    1. I agree! Nancy Wu looks out of place in that group cuz she’s like the youngest one there. Roger Kwok would fit in there perfectly with them. I think Nancy should be in January or March to replace ELiza Sam instead.

  19. I don’t like the TVB calendars anymore. It’s way too photoshopped and I can’t see their faces clearly.

  20. lol at June… photoshopoed much?

And I had no idea Samantha Ko had such long legs…

    1. Samantha is super tall and she’s not an empty case either. I was really shocked at how intelligent she was. I like her a lot after learning more about her.

  21. My favorite is Jan (because of Mandy Wong), March (because of Raymond Lam) and May (because of Sheh)! Honestly, March looks the best!

  22. Dang! The pictures are so bad until I cant recognize the faces!! Some dates have too many artists and while some dates have too little artists. And Dang, Ruco, Mandy and Ada face is too small!! Where is Derek Kwok Jing Hong!?

  23. Is there a reason Power Chan isn’t in any of the pics? Did they already relegate him to kelefe or something? So sad not to see him promoted at all 🙁

My favorite months are May for the colors and simplicity of the pic, and Sept. for the poses and overall coloring/vibe.

Sept. is the only one that makes sense in the painting sort of way, the other months just come across as bizarre with outfits+theme, or bad photoshopping.

It almost seems like they came up with the idea for Sept. first, and then tried to shoehorn every other month into something similar, but different, and it didn’t work.

  24. Holy Batman! Photoshop Galore!

The photos are so touched up I can’t even recognise so many of the artists on first sight.

  25. It’s to fake and there’s to many people, you have to read the description to figure out who’s in it. I liked Last years one better than this one. The only good month that they made is probably July.

  26. It’s a good idea.. too but it too photoshopped and unrealistic

  27. Viruses and bacterias are keep changing their species so as human may need to update their style and idea ha…ha..ha…if not couldn’t complete with those genius species ha..haa..

  28. I like October the best. It’s composition of colors, ambience and mix of people is most natural and appealing. February, March and May are quite alright. The Gymnastics month is lolz. Other months look horrid, like poor copy and paste jobs.

  29. Me too ,love the Oct one! Sep not bad either.
    Glad Shirley Yeung is included.

  30. Thank you Jayne, TVB & The Artiste for the calenders. My favourite is Feb, May & Oct. Hope next year no photoshop or a little will do so we can recognise the artiste.

    1. They will continue too use Photoshop if they know how to use the damn software correctly.

  31. I would like to know why is Grace Chan in there? She just won this year’s Miss HK and already getting promoted by TVB? Doesn’t she have to commit to her miss hk duties before filming dramas?

    1. LOL, noawadays Miss Hk don’t do charity anymore.. they become “professional actresses” deemed by tvb.

  32. April and August looks so HORRIBLE, too much highlighting, cut n paste…

  33. the bicycle pic is the best pic with the sky as background is the limit,it looks so dynamic and it fits also the sportive theme.

  34. does anybody knows how or where to get the calender in the US?

    1. It use to be TVB authorized video rental store that has it. Im not sure it is possible to get it through a local video store right now, unless you could go to ebay to bid it.

  35. Everything looks so nice. Mainly cause they edited/Photoshopped it.

  36. linda really stands out in that january photoshoot – tvb queen 2013!!

  37. I want to order one of this tvb 2014 calendar, please tell me how to order one thankyou.
