Aaron Kwok to Stream Concert to Help Jobless Dancers

He personally donated $100k and will perform with 100 hard-hit dancers.

Following the footsteps of Cantopop legend Sam Hui (許冠傑) who held a free online concert against the backdrop of Victoria Harbour skyline, Aaron Kwok (郭富城) will also be holding “Aaron Kwok Online Concert 2020” <郭富城鼓舞·動起來Online Concert 2020>, to be streamed free online on Saturday, May 9, 2020 (5pm to 6pm HKT).

Aaron hopes to raise funds through the concert to uplift dancers and professionals in the industry whose income have been affected by the recent Covid-19 pandemic, as well as to cheer Hong Kongers on.

Besides singing, some 100 dancers will join Aaron in a performance. A backup dancer when he first started out, the 54-year-old star has personally made a donation of $100,000 HKD to help dancers who had their income badly affected due to cancelled performances during the Covid-19 crisis.

Patrick Siu (蕭潮順), who is producing Aaron’s live show for free, shared more details. “Yes, two hours ago Siu Mei (梁美薇, Aaron’s manager) approached me to be involved in this, and donations will go directly toward Aaron’s personal charity fund. Aaron really wants to help the dancers who have been working with him for many years and also fellow professionals in the film industry. Right now, many things are still in the initial stage, and more details will be released later.”

Oooo… personally donated 100K HKD. That is like 12.9K USD.
    Should I be impressed?!

If the announcement was like, he will match the funds raised during the concert, then that will be impressive and shows his philanthropy.

@craziejones ya sounds quite little with his wealth. It takes away from him doing this good thing for the dancers. His PR people should have advised him differently than openly state he will only donate 100k HKD. He is doing something for them afterall while other stars sit at home doing nothing.

With Aaron’s wealth, $100K is like gas money for his fancy cars.

Since they’ve worked for him as dancers since he started one would think he’ll donate more to help the dancers out. $100K seems like a PR stunt.

To put it into perspective, 100K HKD is the cost of one maintenance session for one of his many super exotic cars. Like someone else had suggested, it really is like gas money for him. What a slap in the face to his team.

looks like it’s not just c-nets who grouse about the stinginess of mainland celebrity donations.

I would have done more for my staff if I were a rich boss like Prince Charles of the UK or Simon Cowell.
