After “Take Two”, Gloria Tang Had No Work for 10 Months

Nine years after winning Miss Chinese International 2013, Gloria Tang (鄧佩儀) finally received her first lead role in Take Two <換命真相>. Despite the breakthrough, the 29-year-old is heading back home in Canada for a long break, sparking speculations that she is frozen by TVB.

Although taking on the lead actress role, Gloria has been out of work for 10 months following the filming of Take Two. While the 28-year-old has appeared in many popular series such as Barrack O’Karma <金宵大廈> and The Exorcist’s 2nd Meter <降魔的2.0>, it was shocking that Gloria was out of work for so long.

Not a Team Player?

While filming Take Two, Gloria was often seen alone by herself and had zero communication with colleagues. Tabloids claimed that Gloria and actor Jonathan Cheung (張頴康) were on bad terms, and many backstage makeup artists and staff members had some unfavorable comments about her. Due to her poor relationship skills with other members, many directors and producers were unwilling to cast Gloria.

When asked about her poor relationships with coworkers and staff, Gloria denied the rumors and said she was offered a role in another drama, but turned down the opportunities because of her plans to go back to Canada and uncertainty over the length of her stay.

Six months ago, Gloria had already submitted her vacation request and was supposed to return to Canada in September. Because of the airing of Take Two as an Anniversary drama, Gloria delayed her vacation plans to November.

“Some people wondered whether I’m going there to have a baby. Definitely not! I’m also not getting married!” Gloria exclaimed. She stated she has some important issues to handle, but they are pleasant matters and had already explained to TVB.

  1. As someone who knows Gloria personally from school, I can totally see this being true. She isn’t an overly friendly person that is willing to have conversations with you unless you are more popular than her/have more star power and therefore can help her career. She will take pics with these A-listers and then post them on her IG and gain followers from them. Nothing against her personally, but I just don’t see much star quality in her and just find her a bit too fake. Too bad TVB are losing good quality actors and actresses and therefore, are scraping the bottom of the barrel because they are still a business and need to push contents out.

    1. @StickyRice101 You know her personally? Wow… sounds like she really does not understand how to survive as an artiste as a newbie… She just broke her own rice bowl. But she may not need the rice bowl… just likes the glam that comes being a artiste.

    2. honestly, many of them in showbiz are just like that. not everyone, but she’s not a rare breed.

      1. Agreed. But you would think people in the industry would be smart enough to think that not only do you need to leech off of other A listers to increase your star power, but how important it is to be nice to the backstage crew and make up artists. These people can see and hear everything and you would want to give them a good impression as well. Bring them little snacks once in a while just to show your appreciation. Being nice goes a long way in my opinion. Why else do some celebrities are so well loved by the public? Other than talents, of course.

    3. There were stories about how snobbish Tavia became but she’s still well loved. There’s stories about how mean Kevin is but he’s still considered A list. We heard so much about how Eric is with women but he’s now the GM of TVB.

I don’t know Gloria but all I want to say is, there’s a lot more going on behind the scenes than we will ever know.

  2. Damn this is probably the worst type of news to come out for an artiste. I liked her in supporting roles but Take Two is is flop.

  3. I think people mistake sucking up to people a friendliness, not being friendly as arrogance, being cold and aloof as being mean and distant. I don’t know her so I can’t comment on her personality but reading the article, I think she is misunderstood. If she’s that fame hungry, she would have pretended to be friendly and nice and drop names everywhere. I just feel viewers don’t like her for legitimate reasons. I personally find her performance dull, because the series is dull. She would have been a better actor if she was cast as a doctor in Kids Lives Matter because she looks and sounds like a professional.

    1. Agree. To me, Grace’s friendliness makes it seem like she’s sucking up, but who knows, I could be wrong.

Hmm I don’t think Gloria looks professional. In the series, sometimes I even forget that she is playing a lawyer. I don’t know what it is, maybe the way she dresses? I mean, compare to Priscilla in 7 Sisters. She really looks like a lawyer in the series.

    2. Then it would be too obvious if name dropping lol. Gotta keep it down low. Wasn’t there an article a while back saying she was sending pakho gifts and then there are scandals among tvb ppl and her manager told her to stop? I just find her to be the type of person who wouldn’t say good morning to lady sweeping at TVB or thank you to the canteen staff. If backstage staff and makeup artists have negative things to say about her, then it is quite unfortunate. And her acting is not particularly good. Not a fan of her.

  4. One of my least favourite actors, think her best performance was in Exorcist Meter 2, but apart from that she’s really a B grade actor at best. Compared to Moon Lau with similar background she’s a far cry from her in every single aspect.

    1. I always get Moon and Gloria mixed up 😛 Cause they look similar to me….But yeah Gloria does seem blah.
