Angelababy Criticized for Revealing Dress at School Event

Turning up at a recent school event of her son Little Sponge (小海綿), 35-year-old Angelababy (楊穎) was criticized by other parents for her skimpy and revealing outfit!

Offering help to the 6.2-magnitude earthquake that struck Gansu province recently, the 35-year-old actress was recognized in a Weibo post for her financial donation by Shanghai Fosun Foundation, the humanitarian arm of the Fosun Group.

Should Have Dressed More Modestly?

On the day of the school event, Angelababy appeared at a fundraising event at the secondary branch of the famous Shanghai school which her son attended. Recognized by many of the parents and attendees who later shared her photos online, Angelababy showed up casually in a lavender camisole dress with her long hair down, and a fashionable 3D glitter tattoo sticker on the left side of her face. Looking youthful with exquisite makeup, she easily became the center of attention.

As the dress showed off her fair complexion, and had a sexy lace-cut-out area near the chest, some criticized the actress for dressing too skimpily, saying her outfit looked like sleepwear. “In front of other male parents, the cami dress was too informal and too casual”, “Her outfit looked like pyjamas” and “It’s a school event, can’t you have more clothes on?” However, some of Angelababy’s fans also came to their idol’s defense, rebutting that the actress looked “ravishingly beautiful”, and emitted a gorgeous aura even from a distance.

150,000 RMB Annual School Fees

Huang Xiaoming (黃曉明) and Angelababy’s son is currently studying in junior one level of Shanghai High School International Division (Xuhui district), with yearly school fees amounting to some 150,000 RMB, and costing some 1.8 million RMB for the full 12 years of education from primary to upper secondary. The school’s students are mostly the offspring of foreigners based in Shanghai or those from Hong Kong, Macau and Taiwan. While transfer students have to pass Chinese, Mathematics, English, those who apply for G10 and above levels will also need to sit for Physics and Chemistry.

Established for 159 years, Shanghai High School is one of the top schools in Shanghai. Also one of the best in China, it was once of the first to offer International Baccalaureate (IB) education, and has three other branches in Zhangjiang, Lingang and Hongkou, besides Xuhui district, where Angelababy was also spotted at last year. The school proclaims that over 90% of its graduates are accepted into branded universities in Europe and United States, while its most famous alumnus is Huawei Technologies founder Ren Zhengfei’s (任正非) youngest daughter Annabel Yao (姚安娜), a Harvard Master’s Graduate in Computer Science,  who is now a Chinese singer.

  1. Lol, women wear clothes more revealing than I could understand in the western world. Nothing to see.

  2. Wait till women start not wearing bras or under garments. Plenty of those where I am. Lol

  3. Wow so apparently women aren’t allowed to show their arms and shoulders anymore. How backwards is this society.

    1. Parents of the students at this international school are mostly foreigners from abroad. Apparently, not all westerners are used to or tolerant of less-than-conservative styles. Compared to the current boobs and butt-revealing fashions designed by haute couture designers and worn by Hollywood and European celebrities at various galas and award shows, AB’s dress is actually very modest by current standards.

  4. 1.8 million RMB = $250K USD and that for 12 years comes out to $21K per year only, which is NOT bad at all for top-notch private schooling
Wearing a cami tank with a crochet lace border only for an outdoor event is not revealing at all
Everything is relative but there is NO need to make something out of nothing. To a nun or Karen, Angelababy might be depressed too revealing. For someone who has done public schooling up until 12th grade, $21K USD per year seems like much but I taught at a school were education was $56K USD per year. Chill people
