Ankie Beilke Refuses to Be a Monster Parent
On February 1, Brother’s Keeper <巨輪> star Ankie Beilke (貝安琪) and her fashion designer boyfriend Simon van Damme welcomed their son in Munich. Their adorable three-month-old son Sebastian, who they also named Siu-lung (小龍), meaning “little dragon” in Cantonese, is friendly and curious. Though surrounded by reporters, Sebastian didn’t show any fear or shyness, and showed curiosity at everything around him.
As it is not advised to give water to newborn babies, Ankie has been giving Sebastian breastmilk whenever he’s thirsty. Sebastian was born in a beautiful hospital in Munich, which prompted Simon to say, “We should have some more babies there!”
Simon, who has ancestry from Morocco and Canada, grew up in Hong Kong. Ankie told reporters, “Simon went to a Chinese International School, so his Mandarin is pretty good. He can also understand Cantonese, so be careful with your words! Haha!” The couple plan to raise Sebastian in a multilingual household. “I’ve been speaking German and Cantonese to him,” she said.
Ankie wants nothing but happiness for her little one. She abhors the idea of monster parenting, saying, “I will let him have fun. Go out to the beach and play with mud and sand. I will let him do what he enjoys, and I won’t force him to do anything he doesn’t want to do. Many children today are unhappy and stressed with the amount of extracurricular activities that they’re required to do. I want him to be a happy boy. He’ll have pressure when he grows up. I don’t want to give him any more.”
Now that they have started their family, when will Ankie and Simon get married? The 36-year-old said, “Simon said he needs to lose some weight first. He doesn’t want to be fat for his wedding picture!”
