Chingmy Yau Gives Birth to Third Daughter

Forty-two-year-old retired actress, Chingmy Yau Suk Ching gave birth to a seven-pound baby girl on August 21st. Chingmy’s good friend, Anita Yuen Wing Yee, confirmed the baby news and praised the girl’s beauty. Due to Chingmy and her husband, Shum Ka Wai’s quest for a boy, Chingmy many intend to have a fourth child.
In 1999, Chingmy married IT fashion mogul, Shum Ka Wai and had three daughters: 9-year-old Shum Yuet, 6-year-old Shum Yat, and new baby, Shum Sing (temporary name). Since this was her third delivery, Chingmy stayed in the hospital for only three days and returned home on August 23rd, successfully dodging the paparazzi’s notice.
Anita Yuen said excitedly, “I visited Chingmy earlier. The baby girl is very cute and looks a lot like Chingmy; she’s a beauty! I told my son, Morton, to pay attention. It’s okay that the girl is younger than him by a few years. Chingmy does not have a preference whether the baby is a boy or girl, although the media continues to report that she is chasing a boy.”

Chingmy’s close friend, Sandra Ng Kwan Yu said, “Congratulations to Chingmy! The baby is a real beauty.”

Jayne: Chingmy’s eldest daughter is already 9! Although she looks more like her father, she is quite cute too. In the first thumbnail group photo, she is the young girl on the left.

Chingmy was one of the prettier Miss Hong Kong contestants, but was always overshadowed by Michelle Reis Lee Ka Yan in the media.

  1. wow..did not know she already has 3 daughters..she sure is one hot mama!

  2. THanks for the news Jayne! I have not heard about Chingmy in a long long time and am happy for her. I still remember back in 1987 when she withdrew due to a plastic surgery rumour. Time passes by so fast. I actually don’t think Michelle Reis is that great but many think she is the most beautiful Ms. Hk ever. I personally don’t think but hey, beauty is in the eye of the beholder.

  3. Congrats to Chigmy. Can’t believe her oldest daughter is 9 already! Chigmy was a very strong contender for the MHK pageant in 1987 until plastic surgery rumors surfaced. That year had strong contenders like Pauline Yeung, Elizabeth Lee, and Wing Lam, who were the eventual three winners respectively. I wonder if Chigmy stayed through the finals, if the winners results would have changed? I think 1987 and 1988(Michele Reis’ year) had some strong contestants.

  4. I think we all wonder about the 1987 pageant results if Chingmy did stay in the pageant. I personally think Pauline would have still won anyways since she is the most successful MS. Hk when it comes to pageant success. Chingmy may have been able to beat Wing Lam and ended up in at least 3rd place. But then again, who really knows because we can all just guess now. Chingmy still had a decent career and a successful life now regardless of whether she would have won a crown in the MS. Hk pageant or not. However, I hope that that experience was one that she will never forget.

  5. She’s definitely my fave and I love this translation. I rarely get to know about the retired famous celebs current news.

I pretty much watched all her movies and her acting was superb.

I really miss all of these girls, Cheung Min, Bridgette Lin, Cherie Chung, Maggie Cheung, etc. Wong Jing will never find another Chingmy.

  6. does anyone have more pretty pictures of her? All I see is a normal pregnant woman. Younger pics perhaps?

  7. Jing, google Chingmy Yau and you will find beautiful photos of her in her prime. I do think she was one of the prettiest Miss HK’s, along the ranks of Michelle Reis, Ada Choi, Sonija Kwok etc.

  8. Congratulations, Chingmy for your new born baby girl! Hope so will grow up just like you.
