Fala Chen’s “Irma Vep” to Premiere at Cannes Film Festival

Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings made Fala Chen (陳法拉) an international star. The 40-year-old continues to take on diversified projects, such as upcoming HBO miniseries Irma Vep, a remake of the 1996 French film directed by Olivier Assayas.

Irma Vep tells a story following American movie star Mira (Alicia Vikander) traveling to France to play a role in filmmaker René Vidal’s remake of silent film Les Vampires. However, she becomes so engrossed in her character that she experiences an identity crisis.

According to reports, Irma Vep is set to premiere at the 2022 Cannes Film Festival in May. The cast including Fala, Alicia Vikander, Adria Arjona, Carrie Brownstein, and Jerrod Carmichael will likely be in attendance. While Fala has yet to announce her attendance, her appearance would mark her first time to walk on the red carpet of Cannes.

Last November, the actress had uploaded a photo of herself dressed in a skintight black suit while commenting that she was filming in the outskirts of France. Her look drew great interest from fans who praised Fala’s suitability for the role, which had previously featured Maggie Cheung (張曼玉) in the Irma Vep film version.
