Jennie to Star in HBO Drama, “The Idol”

Many have been looking forward to BLACKPINK Jennie’s acting debut since the trailers for HBO drama The Idol were released.  Although details behind Jennie’s character remains mysterious, she is seen partying in a club and laughing behind her hands knowingly in the latest trailer. The daring and suspenseful trailer already has many netizens excited for Jennie’s debut.

The Idol is described as “the sleaziest love story in all of Hollywood,” and promises a dark, gritty view of Hollywood full of wild parties, drug use, and sex. It follows the life of a young, struggling female idol eager for fame  who falls in love with a self-help guru, but he turns out to be a leader of a cult. Created by The Weeknd, the series stars Johnny Depp’s daughter, Lily Rose Depp, as well as Troye Sivan.

Fans who glimpsed a taste of Jennie’s acting skills from her new commercial for perfume brand, Tamburins, are eager to see her in The Idol. The HBO series is a fitting debut project for Jennie since she speaks fluent English—the star had studied in New Zealand for five years before starting her Kpop career. The release date for the six-episode series has not been announced yet, but it will likely be in 2023.
