Winning the My Favorite Male Character Award last year for his comedic performance as a taxi driver in The Exorcist’s Meter <降魔的>, Kenneth Ma (馬國明) surprises the audience with his polar opposite role as the strict, proper, and stoic general in Deep in the Realm of Conscience <宮心計2深宮計>. Working with a large female cast in the series, Kenneth spoke about his experience working with dozens of beautiful women.
Not afraid of being overshadowed by the large female ensemble led by Nancy Wu (胡定欣), Kenneth said his friendship with Steven Ma (馬浚偉),and Edwin Siu (蕭正楠) are definitely a key part in storyline and viewers should look forward to it as well.
On working with the beautiful women, Kenneth laughed and said his eyes have been blessed over the last couple of months. The actor said, “They’re all really easy on the eyes; everyone is so fit and beautiful! One of the selling points was the bath scene – I wasn’t a part of it but Steven, who plays the Emperor, definitely had a good time! I remember Chrissie Chau (周秀娜) was filming a bath scene and I was led into the bath area by accident by one of my opponents. That was the only time I got to see Chrissie’s shoulders! [Which female artistes have the best body?] Chrissie, Nancy, Annie Liu (劉心悠), and Alice Chan (陳煒) all are beautiful – the Tang Dynasty had a lot of low-cut clothing.”
When asked about why his girlfriend Jacqueline Wong (黃心穎) was not part of his list, Kenneth explained, “Well…it’s because palace maids are dressed more reserved and not as revealing as the others!”
No Secret Admirers
Unlike his character in the series where Jacqueline has a crush on him, Kenneth said he has never had any secret admirers in real life. First time playing an on-screen couple with Jacqueline, Kenneth said the kiss scene between them was not awkward at all and praised her for being able to get through a lot of the scenes with a single take.
And perhaps being a true off-screen couple had its perks, as producer Miu Siu Ching (梅小青) openly complimented Kenneth’s ability to lead Jacqueline into character perfectly.
