Mandy Wong Praises Benjamin Yuen’s Acting Improvement

Mandy Wong (黃智雯) is very impressed with her male lead Benjamin Yuen (袁偉豪), whose acting has improved so much Mandy said it’s like working with a completely new person.

The Three Women, One ‘Gene’ <三個女人一個「因」> costars were spotted filming the TVB drama in an alleyway in Tsim Sha Tsui last week. Mandy and Ben are frequent collaborators, having costarred in the TVB drama franchises The Hippocratic Crush <On Call 36小時> and Tiger Cubs <飛虎>. In this upcoming series, Mandy stars as a woman with disassociate identity disorder, and Ben plays the male lead, as well as the boyfriend of one of her personalities.

In the scene they shot, Mandy’s wild personality suddenly takes form and she strangles Ben’s wrists with a bra. She then wraps it around his neck so he wouldn’t be able to move, and pushes him up against a wall.

On how it’s like to take on three different characters as one role, Mandy said, “My grasp on the role has gotten stronger now that we’ve started filming. Ben really helped me a lot in this. He told me on the spot that he could really see three ‘spirits’ coming out of me. It’s a huge compliment and I’m so happy of accomplishing that. [Ben and I] have tacit understanding of each other.”

Mandy, who transforms into her wild personality whenever she sees Ben, bullies him a lot in the drama. Ben said, “It’s been very fun. I love my role and Mandy is a great partner. My character should be relatable… he’s a rascal. Hopefully I’ll be able to give the audience a different feeling.”

As for getting tied by Mandy’s bra, Ben said, “I’m happy! This has never happened to me before!” Mandy then said with a laugh, “I think Ben’s a masochist. He gets really high whenever we do these kind of scenes together.”

Ben has been criticized for his wooden acting, leaving a very overcautious impression among the audience. Ben said he has changed his acting for Three Women. “I have to let myself go for this one. If I don’t, it’s game over for me!”

Mandy praised her costar’s vast improvement in Three Women. She said, “We’ve already established out chemistry when we filmed The Hippocratic Crush together, but this time we have even more scenes together. I feel that Ben’s acting has improved immensely. It gives me the impression that I’m acting alongside a brand new Ben.”

    1. @conan2209 I think Mandy was just trying to defend Benjamin because he is her good friend. As for Benjamin Yuen never fond of his acting, there is plenty of talented small time actor/actress at TVB who deserve to be promoted more than him. It is unfortunate that not all the actor/actress that can act were given equal opportunity.
