Niki Chow Succeeds Shu Qi as the Next Box Office Queen?
Niki Chow (周麗淇) has confirmed joining East Asia Entertainment. It was also speculated that East Asia will groom Nicki to become Shu Qi’s (舒淇) successor when Shu Qi’s contract ends in October. Besides filming dramas and movies, Niki will also have an opportunity to rejuvenate her singing career.
Ever since Niki terminated her contract with BMA in 2011, many entertainment companies have knocked on her doors. Her good friend, Charlene Choi (蔡卓妍), also tried to link her with Emperor Entertainment Group (EEG), but the deal was never materialized due to differences in Niki’s career direction. After considering many options, Nicki finally signed with East Asia, which managed superstars such as Leon Lai (黎明), Andy Lau (劉德華), Sammi Cheng (郑秀文), Andy Hui (許志安) and Miriam Yeung (楊千嬅).
Pledged Loyalty to TVB
Niki’s loyalty to TVB is undisputable. In order to film Bottled Passion <我的如意狼君> last year, she terminated her contract early with BMA. It was also rumored that TVB had intended to cultivate Niki into a top fadan at the television station.
Since 2004, Niki has started filming with TVB. She won the Most Improved Actress in the TVB awards in 2005 with her role in The Gentle Crackdown <秀才遇著兵>. Since then, her series such as Under the Canopy of Love <天幕下的戀人>, Bottled Passion <我的如意狼君> and Sergeant Tabloid <女警愛作戰> have all received high ratings. Niki has also been branded as the “Ratings Lucky Star.”
Niki’s recent series, Sergeant Tabloid, which also starred Michael Tse (謝天華) has also won her good reviews in the mainland China, hence earning her a golden ticket to enter into the lucrative mainland market. In order to repay her gratitude to TVB, Niki expressed to East Asia her intention to film at least one to two TVB series per year.
A Promising Career Ahead
Since Shu Qi will be leaving the company, East Asia allegedly intened to have Niki to succeed her position. Niki looked up to Shu Qi as her role model, striving to develop herself as a successful next movie star. Niki said, “I will focus on filming movies in China in the second half of the year. My first stop will be in Shanghai and Beijing. I will also meet up with different directors and producers to get their advice. I really want to film movies again!”
Niki will also be releasing a music album. Niki’s last album FLY was in 2010, after which her music career came to a standstill. “East Asia is a big company and has connections in Hong Kong and China. I hope to have new developments and at the same time, I will maintain my working relationship working with TVB.”

Glad to hear that Niki’s career will be taking off in all aspects (film, singing and tv series). I’ve always enjoyed watching her series except The King of Snooker which I found to be very boring and didn’t like the fact that she was paired up with Patrick Tang.
Even though I’m not much of a Shu Qi fan, I don’t think Niki has the qualities either to be a top-notch actress in this business……..she’s not on the sexy side, nor is she overly beautiful and she really can’t sing or act that well………I think she’s one of those permanent 2nd tier artists and will never get out of it.

Niki Chow isn’t an outstanding actress, but I can understand why she’s a favorite. She did well in Sergeant Tabloid; the drama itself was also decent, and a lot better than some of the recent stuff that Hong Kong is chugging out. I hope it airs soon in HK!
Nikki still need to improve her acting skills. She is far far away behind Shu Qi. Maybe she can do better in tvb,in drama, but not in films.

This action ensures a position to Niki in Txb for the next years. Not a bad thing because she is a fresh face to Txb lead although she is not too fresh.

I’m not a fan of Niki Chow but I think she is way better than Shu Qi in acting also, she speak cantonese fluently.
i’ve never watch any of niki’s films but i know already that i would like her more. shu qi is not good looking at all. shes whiny and has a huge mouth.
Speaking on in terms of acting, Niki is no where near Shu Qi. She has a long way to go in a matter of fact. Her acting is so so. She doesn’t have the versatility as Shu Qi.
I can see Niki’s improvement over the years from Canopy of Love to the Sergeant Tabloid.

Shu Qi regardless of what people say about her past cant EVER touch her acting skills. Thats the bottom line.
Shu Qi’s acting skill is just on the top tier. She is not pretty but she is very attractive, and her charisma is just different.You really can’t compare Niki to her-more like a girl next door type.
