Oscar Leung to Film “Tiger Cubs” and “The Young and Dangerous” Movies

Since the success of Tiger Cubs <飛虎>, Oscar Leung (梁烈唯) has been busy filming for TVB. He will also star in the upcoming film The Young and the Dangerous <古惑仔>. Due to his packed schedule, Leung said he does not have any plans to get married until two years later.

Responding to questions about tying the knot with his longtime girlfriend, Oscar said, “I definitely have plans to get married, but not in the near future. Perhaps in two years! My girlfriend and I already have a mutual agreement, because this is my time to work hard and focus on my career. We’ve been together for twelve years and she’s seen me work my way up. Given that my career is starting to pick up now, I want to focus on that first.”

When asked if his star valued has increased, Oscar humbly said, “It’s been a good year with the increase in salary. My goal is to move my family to a bigger place so I am extremely grateful for the opportunities give to me.”

Oscar also shared that he will temporarily stop participating in television series next year in order to focus on films. “After filming A Great Way to Care 2 <仁心解碼2>, I will be starring in two movies: Tiger Cubs <飛虎> and Wong Jing’s (王晶) new version of The Young and the Dangerous; I’ll be playing the role of San Gai (山雞).”

Oscar admitted that playing the role that was once portrayed so memorably by Jordan Chan (陳小春) will be challenging. “Jordan’s character and the film itself was very successful. The entire cast and crew of the new version will have added pressure since the bar was raised so high previously. But I am happy and excited to be able to participate in this movie.”

Responding to fan speculation as to whether he will take a hiatus from TVB in order to pursue film opportunities, Oscar wrote on his Weibo blog, “I will not give up starring in television dramas. This is the place that I grew up! I have never given up on any work opportunities. Everyone does not need to worry. I will only dedicate greater care towards work! Thanks everyone for your support!”

  1. Oscar’s acting has been noticed by Wong Jing. Who will be playing Ekin’s role in “The Young and Dangerous” remake?

With Oscar to focus on his film career, the TVB “Most Improved Male Actor” award will likely be out of Oscar’s hands and into Him Law’s!

    1. Who will replace Ekin in the remark? oh well, oscar quite resembles Jordan though so that make suitable for the role..plus Oscar is good at portraying rascal too.

    2. Among the contenders for this year’s Anniversary awards, I really wished that Oscar would get an award, to increase his recognition and market value. These awards do increase his filming and appearance fees. He’s been struggling with money for too long…really wish him the best.

      1. i totally agree with you on this. he’s been acting a lot of cameo roles back then and i think it’s his turn to shine. i will vote for him. he got my vote because he’s so committed in his relationship and very great towards his family members. 12 years is a long time and wish him the best of luck.

      1. Oops…I didn’t finish typing, lol

Him is going to get Most Improved this year. Oscar might be nominated for Best Supporting instead, but TVB might award it to someone else now.

    3. Btw even if Oscar dun win Most Improved but he is noticed in movie field, I blv it’s more of a happy future to him. Who want to stay with Txb forever if they can go?

    4. Wow, that’s just sad. No award just because he’s focusing on films? Well, who knows. He still has The Confidant =) But like Fox said, it’s also a good thing that Oscar can go farther than just staying with TVB.

    5. Wong Jing is a hack of a director. I can’t believe this remake is happening.

  2. i’m really happy that oscar is getting the recognition he deserves 🙂 i also love the mutual understanding between him and his gf–it’s really comforting to know that she has been supporting him since he played kelefe roles until now.

hopefully all the main cast can reprise their roles in the movie version or it just wouldn’t be the same :’)

  3. Oscar clarified on his weibo that there was a little misunderstanding in the article, and that he is not taking a year break from filming tv series. He will continue to film series and will not give up any jobs offered to him.

…which means that Most Improved will still hopefully go to Oscar! 🙂 I will be so disappointed if they give it to Him instead.

    1. AC
Thanks for the clarification…we can make that edit in our article for clarification purposes too.

Great, I hope he wins that award! Oscar, continue to promote yourself in your interviews!

I really see him as a young Wayne Lai in the making, certainly Oscar has experienced a bitter life, which lends a depth to his acting and makes him stand apart from other actors around the same age.

      1. Here’s what he says on his weibo too:
        哈哈,誤會誤會,我是不會放棄電視劇的,這可是我成長的地方了!我從來不會放棄任何工作機會的,所以大家不用擔心,我只會用更多的時間去專心工作!謝謝大家支持!

I agree about your assessment of Oscar, and he still has the anniversary series with Wayne so I’m excited to see them in The Confidant.

      2. I think Oscar will be better than Wayne because Wong Jing seem to want to make him a movie star! Wayne don’t make movies LOL

      3. Laughing Gor is the movie with Wayne, and I still can rmb I laughed so hard at that the whole Gangster group are undercops.

    2. I support Koo Ming Wah to win supporting and Oscar with Most Improved. HimHim is so of an one pose wonder in Diva and I can’t find a reason to support him.

      1. I don’t know. Him basically had the same angry face in TC and now in Divas. Forgot how he was in THC.

      2. to DC
yeah the first drama i watch of HIM was Tiger Cubs. he doesn’t even look mean but look constipated instead. i like oscar’s huge eyes. he’s a great guy. HIM on the other hand is courting Tavia and Tavia is very popular now. Is this the way how HIM hopes to move on up on the ladder?

    3. As much as i love him him but i think the award should go to Oscar.

    4. But TVB love Him. TVB would award it to Him to get him to become a contracted artist.

    1. I think bosco would be a good choice but they’ll probably pick HimHim instead.

  4. Good luck to Oscar. Yeah, I wonder who will be taking over Ekins role O_O

  5. I think he’ll do well in movies… he’s very likeable & of course he’s a natural!

      1. Not bad. Although his voice has flaws but it sounds quite sweet. At least it dun hurt my ears like MM or Moses.

        Mandy’s voice is also nice.

      2. I’m really surprised at how manly he sounds in the first song (時間). It’s deeper than his speaking voice.

His life singing is also pretty good.

    1. There was a concert held in Malaysia last weekend with Krystal Tin, Natalie Tong, Oscar n more. I heard he did quite well in singing.

  6. Is Tiger cub movies is made by TVB like Michael Tse Laughing Gor movies ?
will Joe Ma ,Jessica Hsuan,Him Law and other cast from the dram feature in the movies, jayne?

    1. Yeah.. Would be much appreciated if u could update us more on TC movie version details. So happy to hear that they’re going to film a movie . Would be perfect with the ori casts.

  7. Could Edwin Siu start as Chan Ho Nam in this new movie ,Edwin Sui look like Ekin Cheng during Ekin younger day when his hair was short .
Could Eliza Sum play sai sai lup ,but she shall play dai dai lup.
Could Him Law play Dai Tin Yee?
Could MC jin play Dai Fei ?

    1. Wong Jing likes KM. I also see Himhim and MCjin included. Edwin Siu is popular too this year!

    2. I dont find Edwin have that gangster hot look like Ekin did. Edwin doesnt fit as a bad boy type.

    3. Ekin Cheng was pretty popular and had a lot of female fans during his time. Somehow I don’t see Edwin having the same type of star appeal.

  8. really happy for him. as far as i can see, he has improved in every aspect.. his acting, his hosting (on big boys club) and most of all, his attitude. loved him in tiger cubs. is the sequel going to be turned into a movie then?

  9. Actually, Oscar started his career in movies and only transitioned to TV actor later on, so in a sense, it’s appropriate for him to go back to filming movies now that he has built somewhat of a name for himself (at least the roles he will get in movies now will be much better than the roles he had before).

I’m very happy for Oscar actually cuz he’s been through alot and it’s about time for his market value to increase so he can make more money — definitely glad that he’s getting more recognition now!

  10. OH GOD WHY?!

This is not necessary. A better move would have been to continue the series with a new group of rascals whilst having the original kingpins (Ekin, Jordan) make a cameo as their respective roles.

To make matters worse, this is going to be directed by Wong Jing?! This is going to be a joke.

Andrew Lau (Director of Young & Dangerous 1,2,3,4,5,6) was actually on stage with Ekin and the rest of the rascals during Ekin’s concert. They actually sparked interest and mentioned the possibility of ‘Young & Dangerous 7’

GUESS NOT! Director Andrew Lau just got robbed AGAIN. Very similar to what happened with ‘Storm Riders 2’ in where he was in a race against the Pang Bros. to acquire notice to start making things happen for the sequel.

    God damn it all.

    1. Why not? Support young people! Ekin and his groups are already old men.

      1. Don’t be ignorant. I’m not hating on the young people. I’d love for a solid new breed to take over. I’m merely offering a suggestion as to how they can CONTINUE the ‘young & dangerous’ franchise, NOT rebooting it…

By introducing five new youngsters, with different names, they can still have the history of Ekin’s team intact. Thus, making for a far more substantial franchise?

    2. Lan Kwai Fong installments are filmed by nobodies and both movies are top grossing in HK! Wong Jing is just doing the right thing by introducing young people instead of old Ekin and Jordan. Can they even fight now?

      1. I have nothing against introducing and promoting the new breed of actors/actresses. What bothers me is that Wong Jing is associated with this reboot; his films have never proven to be consistently great at all. Why shouldn’t I be worried for the franchise?

Also, don’t make me laugh. At the age Ekin and Jordan are, why wouldn’t they be able to perform action on screen? Didn’t Ekin prove it just a few years ago with ‘Storm Warriors’ and ‘Once a Gangster’?

  11. I don’t know if he has any chances of winning supporting, so even though he’s really past “most improved” I’d want Oscar to win it. Unfortunately, I see TVB pushing their hot property HimHim, so I fear Oscar will yet again be robbed.

    1. Oscar is lots better than Himhim and too good for the Improved Award.

      1. I totally agree. I love Oscar and I wish him the best. I hope he wins best supporting actor.

  12. Him still to work on his acting before getting any award IMO. Oscar is a way better in term of acting and playing different role.

  13. Congrats to Oscar for his successful transitions to movies! Finally his hard work all these years bring him success!

  14. Oscar playing Ho Nam? he’s more of a Chicken to me, than Ho Nam… Micheal Tse should be Ho Nam..

    1. Why the hell would Michael Tse be Ho Nam? He was ‘Dai Tin-Yee’ in the original movies.

      1. @ sky

You’re a goofball. Have you no logic? Michael Tse would not even take the role for it would be disrespectful to Ekin.

Also, if you’re adamant upon casting Michael Tse, they might as well cast the whole group back again? Thank god you’re not in the movie industry…

  15. Excited to see Oscar in the Y&D movies; I’m a fan of them and think he’s a good fit for Jordan Chan’s character.

  16. Oscar over Him any day! Glad to hear that Oscar’s been given the opportunity to participate in bigger and better projects.

  17. Omg. Him Law will join this series along with Paul Wong Koon Chung.

Lol.. Oscar and Him AGAIN. I wonder if anyone like this paring :p
