Roger Kwok’s Children Want Him to Find a New Relationship

Last year, Roger Kwok (郭晉安) surprised the public when he announced his divorce from actress Cindy Au (歐倩怡) after 18 years together. The actor has since kept a close relationship with his children who even encouraged him to find a new partner. While Roger is not opposed to a new relationship, he reveals that he is not in a rush and is waiting to see what fate will bring.

The three-time TV King admitted that family is important to him and that it accounts for 70% of his life. Currently starring in TVB anniversary drama The Fading Gold <金式森林>, Roger shared that the drama’s central theme of inheritance dispute clashed with his own belief in the importance of family unity. When asked if the drama gave him any new insights in his relationship with his children, Roger laughed, “Not really, I don’t think my son and daughter would reach that level.”

Relationship with His Children

Roger is very protective of his children and while he can be strict, he values establishing good communication to foster a close relationship. Even when his son went through a rebellious phase which often led to heated arguments and weeks of silences, Roger was forgiving and believed that it was a necessary stage of growing up. Their relationship eventually became inseparable and Rogers felt reassured even when his son went to UK for his studies.

Rogers shared, “After accompanying him to school, I’ll wait for him to live independently and see what the world is like. I started my career in advertisement at 16 or 17 years old, moved out and worked at TVB at 21. So, I don’t think it’s something my children won’t be able to do.”

“No Age Limit for Love”

After his divorce was announced, Cindy was rumored to have found a new relationship and Roger declined to comment on his ex-wife personal life. When asked when he’ll find a new partner, Roger said, “Love isn’t something you seek, it’s a type of arrangement. Looking at all the relationships in my life, each one was a remarkable arrangement by fate. It won’t be forced, or be sought.”

Asked if his children would be a factor in his decision, Rogers replied, “No, because my daughter wished me a happy Valentine’s Day this year and hoped that I will find someone soon. They’re both quite mature and open-minded. I’ve been sharing everything with them including the divorce, taking their thoughts into consideration, giving them the confidence to find their own love and grow up healthily.”

Roger’s on-screen relationship with Hera Chan (陳曉華) is a hot topic. When asked if Roger would similarly accept a relationship with a big age-gap in real life, Rogers said, “I’ve always believed that love shouldn’t be judged by age. There’s no age limit for relationships but it’s when you meet them and how you build that relationship is what makes it challenging.”
