Ron Ng is Fed Up with Dating
Often labeled as TVB’s wild child due to his spending habits and playboy personality, Ron Ng (吳卓羲) has seen a fair share of criticism and negative press throughout his 12-year acting career. Since the broadcast of his new drama Triumph in the Skies 2 <衝上雲宵II>, Ron has presented a different, more mature side of himself. The 33-year-old recently spoke at length about his changing values, and debunked his biggest relationship rumors to date.
Ron Finally Buys a House
As a young man who quickly came into money and fame in the 2000s, Ron indulged himself with a materialistic lifestyle. He reportedly spent much of his savings on expensive watches and cars, building up an impressive collection. Luckily, Ron finally came to his senses and invested his money in real estate instead. He recently purchased a 1,200 square feet residence at Sham Tseng’s Bellagio towers, which comes with a beautiful bay view and a $8.63 million HKD price tag. When asked for his reasons to purchase the luxury condo, Ron explained, “It is a 35-minute drive to TVB, and I will definitely get to Tsim Sha Tsui within 15 to 20 minutes! I really like the view. I can see the water and Tsing Ma Bridge. It is great! My mother has wanted me to purchase property ever since I was young. She feels that even if I get fired from my job, I would always have a roof over my head!”
Ron shared that he currently lives with his mother at their new home, and that he has learned to appreciate family time. “I was more rebellious when I was younger, and liked to go against authority. Now that I am older I realized that I will never mature if I continue to behave that way. Nowadays I do my best to fulfill my parents’ wishes. I would give them money if they want to buy things. I don’t care if they lose all of the money playing mahjong. I just want them to be happy!”
When asked if his mother has urged him to get married, Ron said that she had once asked him if he had considered marriage. Ron replied that he had, and since then Mrs. Ng no longer brings up the subject. Although many of Ron’s close friends have married and established their own families, Ron is in no hurry to join his peers. When speaking about his past dating history, Ron expressed frustration at the dating process and decided to pull himself entirely out of the game.
Rumored Love Interests
Addressing his recent rumors with Triumph co-star Kelly Fu (傅嘉莉), Ron clarified, “It is ridiculous! I have seen the reports. They said [Kelly] and I are together and have just started dating. I don’t want to discuss things that are not true. I can only thank her for helping to promote our new drama. She and I will never be romantically involved, whether in the past, present, or future. We are only colleagues!”
When asked about his past rumor with Sire Ma (馬賽), who reportedly lived together with Ron in her own property. Ron said “[The reports about] Sire Ma are even worse! It’s not like I can’t afford to rent my own place!” Another gossip claimed that Charmaine Sheh (佘詩曼) gifted Ron with luxury watches. Ron quipped, “In my dreams! Tell [Charmaine] to hurry up and give them to me! All I can say is, everything I own today was bought with my own hard-earned money!”
Ron has recently proclaimed that he is single and has voluntarily pulled himself off the dating market. He wants to focus on his career, and that as a man, he can still date and marry in the future regardless of his age. When asked whether he would date someone within the entertainment industry, Ron seemed repelled by the idea. “We would have nothing to talk about at home! All we can talk about is acting. I already know the ins and outs of filming, no need for you to tell me more about it! Or should we sit around and gossip about other artists? Of course I wouldn’t completely say no to dating within the industry… female artists are also women. Women need you to spend time accompanying them. If, for example, the last day of filming happens to fall upon her birthday, that is major trouble brewing! It is already tough to spare just two hours from filming to attend an event; it would be even harder to make time for dating!”
Ron further explained that he dislikes clinginess, and finds that some women may not be able to understand his personality and ways of thinking. “[Dating] is very annoying. I personally keep many thoughts deep within me, and would only talk about them after they have been heavily filtered. Women who date me tend to think that I keep myself hidden, and feel like they can’t fully understand me. This is how problems start. They would say, ‘You don’t tell me anything. You must not love me!’ I am very focused when I work. I don’t like it when others ask me what time I will get off of work… I don’t like it when others intervene. I say I am working, but they would not believe me. Ron Ng does not like to give explanations! Maybe they should wait until my drama airs and then I can point out exactly which scenes I was filming on which particular days? I really can’t understand this. Maybe the timing just isn’t right!”
