Excessive Drinking Hurt Ron Ng’s Liver

Since 2007, Ron Ng (吳卓羲) has steadily established a market for himself in mainland China. With dramas lined up one after another and his income surging, he bought his first luxury property in May. Unfortunately, due to his limited rest and heavy drinking habits, Ron found that his liver was three centimeters bigger than normal.

Enlarged Liver Can Lead to Cancer

Ron admitted that he has not taken a break in over eight years. Due to hectic filming schedules, he only has four to five hours of sleep each night. His record was going sleepless for five days straight. Ron explained, “I didn’t feel any discomfort at first but when I went for a checkup, the doctor said my liver expanded 3 centimeters. The doctor said that if my condition worsens, it could lead to either hepatitis or even liver cancer!”

Ron’s liver problems have been persistent for the past seven years. However, after realizing the gravity of his current health, Ron decided to stay in Hong Kong and visited Chinese health practitioners regularly.

Besides filming with little rest, a leading cause to Ron’s liver problem may be due to his excessive late night drinking habit. Since going to the doctor in July, Ron tried his best to limit his drinking. In a radio interview yesterday, Ron said, “The doctor said my liver had enlarged; the condition remains the same now. I have to consistently see Chinese herbalists and eat Chinese medicine.”

More Popular in China

Although Ron received many roles in TVB dramas, he has a much larger fan base in mainland. After completing Triumph in the Skies 2 ended, he filmed The Lady in the Cubicle <格子間女人>, and Marriage in 10 Years <待嫁十年> (tentative title), leaving him almost no time in Hong Kong. Ron is one of the most sought-after celebrities from Hong Kong alongside Raymond Lam (林峯) and Bosco Wong (黃宗澤), with all the actors rumored to be receiving $200,000 RMB per episode.

With the large sum of money Ron received from series and movies, he managed to purchase his first home in May 2013. The 1,200 square feet apartment is situated near Bellagio and cost approximately $8.6 HKD. With his goal is to buy a $30 million large complex in the future, Ron will continue saving until he reaches that point.

Francis Ng (吳鎮宇) revealed that Ron was his prime scolding victim on the set of Triumph in the Skies 2 <衝上雲霄II>, but Ron laughed it off and said that Francis was actually giving him valuable advice by scolding him. When reporters asked about Fala Chen’s (陳法拉) naked back scene being cut in the Hong Kong broadcast version, Ron stated he has not seen it and it is probably best for the audience since viewers do not particularly like daring scenes. “It’s good to adhere to what the viewers want, but at the same time it’s important to respect the actor’s work. Therefore, having two separate versions is ideal.”

  1. Ronnie no wonder why his looks went down hill cos he was getting sick usually when ur looks go down hill there is something wrong with your health

    1. i didn’t see it – make up probably did its job

    1. I’m sorry, but who cares. unless you’re his fan that is.

No offence but I don’t find Ron to be that popular. Also, when walks, he kinda walks like a hunk (u know what I mean??) – he walks from side to side adn curls his back -it’s kinda weird. Maybe it’s just me…

      1. I think Ron Ng will get more popular after the airing of TITS 2. His character seems to be well-liked by the audience, and he does well in Isaac’s character.

      2. i think he needs to play a villain’s role to get famous – usually those that are used to innocent roles test the waters and play villainous roles. e.g tavia yeung in beyond the realm of conscience

      3. @yeung4life:

you’re saying as though he’s still a nobody in tvb. Ron is already a household name in HK and in mainland China. And it’s not necessary for one to play villainous role to get famous. Sam Tong made Francis Ng a housewife killer, Ruco Chan was propelled to first line status with a role of a righteous lawyer in The Other Truth, Kenneth Ma won awards and is now given the ‘idol’ label as Yat Kin Tau. All are likeable and non-villainous roles.

      4. That is just your opinion and if you are not even a fan of Ron, then how would you know for sure if he is really popular or not since I am guessing you would not follow his news.

      5. I dont like Ron either, he gave ppl that kind of arrogance. There were tabloids that said Ron lashed at one of the TVB artiste, I cant remmeber that actor’s name. Some celebrities think they’re way too great, they’ve to be humble, he thinks he’s a hunk, which I dont think so. His acting is lousy & no interest in watching him. But, it’s sad that some audience just look for “good looks” as some said he is good looking & doesnt mind the acting is bad.

  2. wow, not getting enough sleep but have time to drink so much alchohol??

      1. he doesn’t work hard – he drinks alcohol….how can he get some rest if he continues drinking alcohol???

    1. I agree and how can you drink so much when you lack so much rest? It just makes you more tired and worn out. I hope he stops drinking because my uncle and father both passed away due to excessive drinking. They both developed liver problems due to drinking. I hope that Ron takes better care of his health and rests when he is not working. All of the money in the world cannot buy back your health.

  3. Ron does look very tired in “Triumph in the Skies 2”. His figure noticeably got flabbier after dating Viann Zhang.

Perhaps the drinking happened while he was filming in mainland China. With shorter filming hours, the crew can go out to drink afterward.

It is not uncommon for TVB to wrap up filming at 2 or 4 am. Usually artists just go home to shower and it’s another workday starting in 2 hours.

      1. that’s why he’s all sick adn drowsy after meeting Viann (we all know what type of person Viann is just by looking at her photos – it’d be no wonder if she’s got those illnesses)

  4. Roman Law Man died of liver cancer …… he drank too much alcohol when he was alive.

Excess consumption of alcohol really damages the liver very much. There is usually no symptom until the final stage of cancer. Sad!

I hope Ron Ng will get the message and get rid of his drinking habits. He is too young to have liver problems.

  5. why are you guys feeling sorry for him? look, the guy wants to drink alcohol and hang around with multiple girls coz that’s his life adn he chose to do so himself – did anyone force alcohol into his mouth???
    no.

I’m not angry btw, I’m just sick of actors talking about how lonely they are, how much stress they’re going through, how fat they think they are, whether they’re interested in this actress or that…….

like seriously. Can’t they just be live a quiet and peaceful life?

but then again, if they didn’t create these scandals, I, yeungforlife, and many other jaynestars.com readers would not have anything to talk about. lol

    1. First of all, I wonder if you hate Ron or any celebs for that matter, why are you wasting your time here?? I really do not get it.

I guess you do not know how stressful and tiring it is to be in the circle. All jobs are stressful but being an actor/actress has more stress then the typical job does. But of course, it is their choice and they get paid well for it too. However, all of their fame and fortune does not come without a lot of sacrifices. The life of an actor/actress(singers or anyone in the circle that is) is like an open book for the public. Looks are important for any celeb as we can see. I remember reading Fann Wong(Singaporean actress)’s biography and she talked about the stress and pain of acting, singing and filming. How can they live a quiet and peaceful life if they entered the e circle?? They are even followed when they go to the restroom at times. But that is their choice and one of the many sacrifices that they must make when they decided to enter the e circle. You get some but you lose some since you cannot always have the best of both worlds.

      1. Is this supposed to be the justification for Ron’s excessive drinking habit (or addiction among other things)?

If it were, then it would be quite disturbing.

      2. Of course NOT since I HIGHLY oppose excessive drinking. I am just saying in general about life in the circle and not just talking about Ron.

    2. I think we feel sorry for you, and you address yourself as yeung4life? What is up with that?

It’s not just actors that have those traits…it’s human that are lonely, and going through stress, feeling self conscious about out bodies, and having fantasies and what about celebrities. By your choice of words are you suggesting that you have never lived life?

I see nothing wrong of Ron expressing his own highs and lows of his career especially as an artiste, they’ve all given that same interview before.

  6. Another Ron article?!! Come on Jayne – the HK media is also abuzz with news of other stars like Fred Cheng and alleged girlfriend who is Paul Tsun’s daughter. How about a story on the Bosco lookalike who was ousted on the 4th episode of Voices of the Star?

    1. You’re getting news on JayneStars for free. If you’re gonna make requests, at least be polite about it.

  7. it’s all by choice, dodo cheng is leading a very normal life, she sleeps at night and works in the day, she exercises and drain down lots of juices

    1. Dodo Cheng refused to film any more drama series, not even sitcoms. Of course, she can lead a very normal life. Moreover, she is loaded with money and does not have to worry about making more money.

If an artiste films drama series for TVB, it is very difficult for him/her to lead a very normal life.
