Sire Ma Denies Being Boycotted by Katy Kung

Since the broadcast of the TVB drama this April, Sire Ma (馬賽) has been shrouded in negative headlines. Reported to have suffered suicidal thoughts while filming Bullet Brain <神探高倫布> last year, Sire denied she had mood disorder. Adding to her stress, Sire was heavily criticized for her acting; her trusted domestic helper was imprisoned for stealing from her bank account; and she was rumored to be disliked by a group of TVB actresses.

Katy Kung Boycotts Sire Ma?

While filming Silver Spoon, Sterling Shackles <名媛望族>, Sire was romantically linked to Adrian Chau (周志文) who portrayed her husband in the series. When Sire and Adrian’s rumors surfaced, Adrian’s girlfriend, model Coco Yuen (袁聖殷) lashed out angrily at Sire via Weibo.

Recently, Sire was romantically linked with her male costar, Jason Chan  (陳智燊) while filming upcoming drama, Will Power <傳愛事務所>. Since Jason has been linked with Miss Chinese International 2007 Sarah Song (宋熙年), Sire was again branded as the third wheel. The news allegedly upset Sarah’s good friend, Katy Kung (龔嘉欣) who convened a group of actresses to boycott Sire. Regarding this matter, Sire said nonchalantly, “These reports are not true. These news are written for entertainment purposes only. It has made Katy unhappy and she even apologized to me for any misunderstanding. In reality, the news is not true.”

Stolen Diary

To draw more viewers for its final episodes this week and boost its 22 points rating, the production crew of Bullet Brain launched yet another promotional campaign. A birthday cake was prepared in celebration of Wayne Lai’s (黎耀祥) belated 49th birthday. Costars Sire and Ngo Ka Nin (敖嘉年) were also present at the event. With poor reviews and ratings, several netizens even demanded the series to be cancelled, thus Wayne was relieved that Bullet Brain was not pulled off the network.

Some of the worst criticisms had been targeted at Sire Ma. Viewers said Sire’s performance was dull and her accented Cantonese was distracting. Although Sire has done her best and has no regrets, she has been noticeably downcast recently. Sire explained her mood was due to her Indonesian domestic helper stealing from her.  Sire said, “I want to thank everyone for their concern. Many friends have come forward to show their concern. I’m actually upset because the helper had ripped pages off my precious diary. It was a gift from my first boyfriend. Now, I can only blame myself for not teaching her well.”

Though the domestic helper had betrayed her trust by withdrawing money from her account without her consent, as well as stealing several expensive watches, clothing, and make up worth over $10,000 HKD, Sire was ready to forgive her young Indonesian employee. Against her family and her manager’s advice, Sire is still considering re-hiring her helper.

  1. You see, 1 or more actor/actress can be affected on this series as a result of a dismal performance. TVB can not do this stunt, especially Ricky Wong’s HKTV witch hunt to get into free TV business.

I felt sorry for Sire Ma with the untruthful rumors. But, I dont feel sorry for her lackluster performance in this series. She needs a HUGE makeover. Either she hires a acting coach & a good PR agent or get out of entertainment industry entirely.

    1. TVB does not need to promote this crappy series anymore further. SAVE the money and promote Beauty of War and other series that are starting to release soon. TVB has already done a lot of damage, they really need to be QUICK to correct.

      1. yes, cant believe they are still trying to promote this series.
        crappy crap.

    2. Harsh words.
I believe that this drama was not Sire’s best performance.

    3. She does take acting classes during her spare time

    1. as outsiders, we do not know if this is true.

  2. Sire Ma’s acting is not amazing but I don’t think she deserves the hate she’s getting. I think it’s all because of her role! Her character is so annoying, stubborn I can’t even like her role.
I wonder if Eliza Sam, Oceane Zhu or Priscilla Wong had gotten the role would they be heavily criticized too? Since I find these 3 acting are pretty similar!

    1. I agree with you but I feel that Eliza and Priscilla are still pretty new 😛 As for Oceane Zhu, her accent does not really bother me but I think it’s still quite early to judge her acting skills. But I think they might be criticized as well if they did play the role.

    2. None of these actress doesnt fit in the character profile with their experience.

      1. True. But Oceane Zhu does have more experience than the other two!

      2. Oceane Zhu is still new and I dont think she is capable taking this role regardless of her accent.

      3. What’s “old” to you then? Oceane Zhu begun her acting career back in early 2009/late 2010.

      4. 3 years is still new. She still have to gain more experience filming other dramas.

      5. so you’re basically saying quantity is more important instead of quality. I think you could be experienced actress even with a few roles since each role could be light (a character who goes not that much) to heavily-developed (a character who goes through a lot)

      6. can you two just shut up and argue elsewhere. youve been arguing everywhere on jaynestars -.-

      7. No, CoCo thatz YOU saying it.
Im saying she needs to film more series that is suitable to her and can gain experience.

      8. No. you’re implying that “3 years is still new. She still have to gain more experience filming other dramas.”

Other dramas as in = more dramas.

      9. Quantity is super important to a new artiste especially if he/she does not have any proper training in acting unless she is highly talented. I doubt that there are that many talented newbies. Any artiste will pick up a few acting skills in any roles.

I don’t know how good Oceane Zhu is in her acting skills, but she is definitely a new artiste to me. Moreover, proper Cantonese many not be that important to American-born or Canadian-born Chinese here, but it is super important to the people of Hong Kong. A lot of Mainland Chinese artistes do have this disadvantage when they film Cantonese-speaking drama series, and Oceane Zhu is one of them.

      10. To me, both quantity and quality is equally important to a new artiste. You can star in many dramas but if the development of the roles are poorly developed/done, it won’t help the artiste out. So if an artiste has few roles but these roles are highly developed, then that would help the artiste. Of course, it can go both ways.

      11. I agree that QUALITY is also important to an artiste. However, new artistes need to have the experience to act different roles before they can show their proper expressions. Therefore, it is good to do some minor roles first and excel in major roles later. I don’t think TVB should let new artistes assume major supporting (or even lead) roles in their first two attempts. Rebecca Zhu was a good example for it. She had never acted any roles, and “Siu Yau” was her very first role after joining TVB. Rebecca would have done a lot better if she had more exposure to acting.

      12. coco, she is barley know when she is in this industry for 3 years.

I echo the statements that sandcherry & Ashely made, she has a lot of time to hopefully reach a leading role in her career. Oceane is improving series by series basis.

      13. I agree with Ashley and Sandcherry as well. But I also believe that teamwork and guidance by a veteran actor or a more experienced actor is also important in a drama.

  3. sire’s acting is horrible. katy kung surprises with her acting that can stand up to veterans in beauty. she has improved!

  4. It seems that Sire Ma is a pretty emotional person, as follows:

    1) While filming Silver Spoon, Sterling Shackles , Sire was romantically linked to Adrian Chau (周志文) who portrayed her husband in the series.

    2) Sire was romantically linked with her male costar, Jason Chan (陳智燊) while filming upcoming drama, Will Power .

If she doesn’t know how to control her emotions, she will definitely get into big trouble after filming a few more romantic drama series with his future co-stars.

    1. agree. sire sounds weak and has low EQ. not cur enough to be an artiste. she better train herself to be stronger. weak women are annoying.

  5. Sire Ma is beautiful and attractive; I think she will be promoted to be first line fadan very soon.

      1. Why wait and see… she is n o where near fadan staus.

    1. larry 3
in your opinion, who is the worse actress? Christine Kuo , Aimee Chan or Sire Ma?

      1. They are all consider worse TVB actress as of NOW, IMO. No improvement in acting through their lifetime career. They are potential to be shut out by next generation actress in their 20s. They better start improving their acting since competition is fierce unless you got good connections.

      2. Personally, among the above 3 new actresses, I would rank them as follows:

        1) Aimee Chan
        2) Sire Ma
        3) Christine Kuo

  6. Sorry to say but Sire Ma is unattractive. And her acting sucks. Just saying..* Sire Ma fan pls don’t get mad* 🙂

  7. She really is nuts if she plan on rehiring the helper. That person can no longer be trusted!

  8. Her dom. worker’s gonna do all kinds of nasty stuff like drop food on the floor and serve it up to her or like spit in her food.

    Man actors are dumb, ahaha

  9. I am sad to read all the negative remarks on Sire. Poor girl.

I don’t fancy her but I do not think her acting is so horrible and terrible to deserve all kind of bad remarks.

I admit that her character in Bullet Brain initially was unlikable. But the character Eva has definitely got some nice characters too. At least, she is true to friends. Remember when she knew she could no longer get Columbo from Mui Mui and despite too heart broken, she did want to help Mui Mui to seek for treatment. In fact, her acting is pretty good. And she is pretty.
