“The Veil” Loses Steam With Disappointing Finale

Led by Nam Goong Min, Park Ha Sun, and Kim Ji Eun, spy thriller The Veil made an explosive entrance with its intense and action-packed scenes. Recognized as the hope of MBC’s drama comeback, The Veil displayed promising potential to become a big hit. Unfortunately, it failed to keep viewers after the later episodes turned overly complicated and confusing to follow.

On October 22, the second-to-last episode aired to criticisms. as many felt the story became predictable and the showdown between Han Ji Hyuk (Nam Goong Min) and the main villain Baek Mo Sa (Yoo Oh Sung) was very anticlimactic. It was a shame the plot became so weak that even the best actors could not save it.

The finale aired the next day also presented disappointing results. The Veil ended with an average nationwide rating of 8.8 percent. Aside from failing to surpass its highest rating record of 9.8 percent, it also did not manage to break into the 10 percent threshold.

Praised for his dedication and versatile acting, Goong Min had carried the entire drama with his charisma. Working out rigorously to gain 31 pounds of muscle, Goong Min transformed his body for the undercover agent role. Doing all he can to craft a tough and vengeful character, the actor impressed with his perfectly executed action scenes and well-controlled emotions. For many viewers, he was the only reason why they continued watching the drama.
