Venus Wong Gives Seductive Performance in “Happy Ever After?”

Diving deep into the complexities of marriage, TVB’s Happy Ever After? (婚後事) premiered last week to positive reviews. In addition to Yoyo Chen’s (陳自瑤) expressive portrayal of a woman caught in a cheating marriage, Venus Wong’s (王敏奕) performance as a third party in Yoyo’s marriage is bold, yet believable.

Mira (Venus Wong) successfully seduces and becomes involved with Tim (Him Law 羅子溢) and has many intimate scenes with him. Emitting an alluring air of femme fatale, Venus is believable as a bold, yet romantically-minded woman.

Admitting the character is out of her comfort zone, Venus expressed, “The real me is not like that, so I prepared for my role by watching some films. Considering things from Him’s point of view, I felt like I needed to exaggerate the performance and amplify my charm. On the first day of filming, the producer complained that I didn’t act my scenes well enough, because I didn’t know how to properly seduce someone.”

Venus entered the entertainment industry in 2006, when she was only 14 years old. Besides commercials and other modelling work, she later went on star in several films, mostly playing supporting roles. She joined TVB in 2013 and filmed her first drama, Never Dance Alone (女人俱樂部), playing the youth version of Rachel Lee’s (李麗珍) character. Although Venus continued to star in several high-profile dramas, such as Forensic Heroes V (法證先鋒V) and The Queen of News (新聞女王), Venus’ role in Happy Ever After? is generating the biggest buzz in her career so far.
