Wayne Lai Wants Myolie Wu to Stay in TVB

The cast of Overachievers <名門暗戰> promoted the series yesterday at a red carpet event. The 30-episode drama, which stars Wayne Lai (黎耀祥), Raymond Wong (黃浩然), Edwin Siu (蕭正楠), Maggie Shiu (邵美琪),Nancy Wu (胡定欣), Fred Cheng (鄭俊弘), and Sisley Choi (蔡思貝) premieres on Monday night, November 3.

Wayne is confident that the drama will be a success, but in regards to his chance for winning TV King for the fourth time, Wayne said that depends on the viewers. In response to HKTV launching its online network on TVB’s Anniversary day, Wayne welcomes HKTV’s call for the ratings battle, as competition drives improvement.

Although the nominations for this year’s TVB Awards have not been announced yet, Nancy Wu said she hopes Overachievers will earn enough popularity to earn a nomination for Best Drama.

Wayne Lai Convinces Myolie Wu to Stay with TVB

There has been talk that Myolie Wu (胡杏兒) does not plan to renew her TVB contract next year when it expires, opting for a full-time career in mainland China instead. Wayne, who had collaborated with Myolie in the yet-to-air No Reserve <巾幗梟雄之諜血長天>, said he hopes Myolie will reconsider.

“When you go to mainland China, it’s all about finding fast money. But you can’t learn anything. Myolie is a good costar and a very flexible actress. She can improve even more if she stays. TVB is a good place for you to train hard. I hope she will be able to maintain both [TVB and the mainland markets]. If I see her sometime, I will talk about it with her.”

Sisley Choi Responds to Rumors with Fred Cheng

Fred Cheng and Sisley Choi became good friends after collaborating in Overachievers. Rumored to be dating, Sisley was spotted attending Fred’s first solo concert on November 1. However, Sisley left the concert early, sparking rumors that Sisley wanted to avoid being seen at the same time as Fred’s rumored girlfriend Lesley Chiang (姜麗文).

Sisley said, “That’s not true. I’m currently filming a drama and I’ve only managed to find time in my schedule to go support Fred. We are good friends. Everything in the reports are just rumors.”

  1. Um, I disagree with what he said. I mean, I guess it’s true working in China earns them “fast money”, but I’m pretty sure Myolie can learn whole lot more outside of her comfort zone than staying in one place for 10+ years. Although I’ve watched couple of dramas with Myolie in it, and none of them is impressing… I still think she needs a bigger stage.

  2. through the years I get to appreciate Myolie acting so i do hope she stays with the station, seeing all the recent new Miss HK getting promoted it doesn’t really appeal me, still not used to the new girls.

  3. It’s funny how when Wayne got asked bout Raymond lam leaving tvb and because Raymond is a competitor for tv king Wayne support raymond leaving tvb but net myolie WU haha

    1. he’s closer to myolie than raymond lam so he can give a more honest opinion. raymond lam isn’t leaving for mainland market but other areas of development.

there’s nothing funny about it from my perspective for wayne giving his opinion that may seem varying on the surface ..

  4. TVB stars see the Mainland market as “digging gold.” So far, Myolie filmed a couple of dramas there, but with little substance. I feel she IS trying to make quick money, which may lower her portfolio in the long run. But, Myolie aint young anymore. Either she’s becoming the next Charmaine aka Bachelorette or she will find Mr. Right and retire. She probably wants to earn all she can now.

So what Wayne is saying is don’t leave TVB completely to focus on the Mainland market. You need a backup plan if all fails. A per-series contract is ideal.

    1. There’s nothing wrong if she films for money. She’s getting older and in a few years just like other female artistes before her value will get lower due to her age. Better reap it while you still can. Wayne has no mainland market, how can he understand?

      1. It has nothing to do with the Mainland market. Wayne is just saying it’s probably safer to stick with TVB while pursuing other things. He’s not telling Myolie to stay with TVB forever. I don’t see what so bad about his comment.

  5. I disagree his opinion. Who is leaving or staying? It’s up to her, not him.

    1. Of course it’s not up to him, he is only giving his opinion when asked by reporters. I dont think it’s at all any harm to an artist to receive any kind of opinion or advice from other experienced artists’. Yes his market in Mainland may be little, but cant just dismiss his opinions all together because of it. In the end it’s up to Myolie to decide. The more perspective from different people the better for her to make the right decision in the end 🙂

  6. I understand what Wayne is trying to say since we see how Charmaine comes back after unsuccessful foray in mainland and how Steven Ma for example goes under the popularity radar. But Wayne himself never film in mainland how can he confidently say that filming in mainland is that bad? I still agree however that it’s better for Myolie to keep a safety net in TVB in case she can’t make it in mainland since mainland already has a lot of younger actresses and too mucch competition while in TVB she’s already at the top, only below Charmaine.

  7. Myolie Wu is good…even better than her ex. To enter Mainland China market is to earn more money.

    1. Myolie Wu is nice much better than her ex and other fadans. Good to earn more money in mainland market.

      1. myolie is good…I love her dramas.
in fact, her role in triumph in the skies is perfect.

  8. I do not see anything wrong but his comments – he only had 2 options: yes, she should leave or not she should stay (another option was to keep quiet).

  9. Myolie has not improved since forever.going to china may widen her knowledge and make her a better actress. May throw away bad habits. See Charmaine. But from I saw myolie was myolie even in china. I hope she finds her passion for acting again.

    1. agree, she has reached the age to broaden her horizon, its now or never if she stay in tvb for another couple of years she will be to old to start a new career. she is still hot now and i think she has a chance in mainland market or in the movieworld.if you never try you will never know.

  10. Myolie will be attending the upcoming TVB sales presentation, is this a sign she’s renewing with TVB? Kevin Cheng, Raymond, Bosco, Tavia not attending. Luckily Ruco will be there along with Kenneth, Ron, Wayne and others.

  11. Myolie is old enough to make her decision, let her go if she has the opportunity to flourish elsewhere. She’s no longer young and has been with TVB for the past 16 years. Good luck to her new endeavours.

  12. No mentioned at all of Grace Chan, that pseudo Indian girl, hehehe.

  13. Hey, what do you guys/girls think of the new series Overachievers?

I did not like Episode 1 too much….

    1. Grace didn’t suck which is great though she should have been the adopted daughter. Right now I know nothing about the plot so it is refreshing but Wayne is a miscast and too old.

  14. don’t like the fighting for family fortune and discord kind of drama.

  15. Not sure why people are bashing Wayne Lai. Staying in HK and TVB if you are a male or female lead you garner much more publicity and commercial contracts. In turn mainland productions look at you and desire you in their series and films. How many have actually made it big in China?

Gallen Lo had a few main leads and he kept his publicity up in HK in order to keep it going.

Now the only one who returned to mainland and made a name for himself is Harwick Lau.

Wayne Lai has left TVB before to work in the HK film industry and abroad. So he is mainly giving his expertise. You talk about him having less of a market but plenty of film productions would like him in their series. Not as the male lead but definitely as a senior support actor who can help make it great.

Rosy Business, Confidant etc. are very popular in the mainland.
