“Sergeant Tabloid” Opens With High Ratings

TVB’s latest romantic police drama, Sergeant Tabloid <女警愛作戰>, premiered Monday night to high ratings. The Nelson Cheung (張乾文) production averaged 28 points and peaked at 31 points during the first episode. Hong Kong viewers were finally able to catch it this week with unseen footage and new special effects different from the previous version aired overseas.

After a two-year gap since Bottled Passion <我的如意狼君> airedNiki Chow’s (周麗淇)   fans were excited to see their idol again and looked forward to improvements in her acting skills. Fans also complimented on Niki’s well-kept figure, although Niki was clearly outshone by her costars in Monday’s episode. During a scene in which Niki’s friends took her boxing to recover from heartbreak, Niki wore conservative long sleeves and pants while Candice Chiu (趙希洛), Grace Wong (王君馨) and Koni Lui (呂慧儀) showed off their curvy figures in gym shorts and deep-v tops.

Niki and Michael Tse (謝天華) invited the entire cast and crew to dinner to watch the premiere on March 11. The two argued and teased each other mercilessly, much like their onscreen counterparts, Lui Fei-Hap and A1.

Niki revealed that the two pooled their personal money together for this event, although Michael denied playfully and implied that Niki was the richer one. Niki retorted that Michael was famous for being stingy.

When the first episode opened, Michael noted that Niki looked much better on film than in real life and that TVB’s post production crew must have worked extra hard to make this happen. Niki helplessly replied, “TVB doesn’t need to fix anything!”

Sergeant Tabloid took over the same time slot as the less popular Season of Love <戀愛季節>, which only averaged 24 points during it broadcast. However, Niki and Michael were confident that their drama will continue to achieve high ratings. Niki believed that her pairing with Michael and the revamped production will appeal to Hong Kong audiences, and Michael agreed that they can further boost ratings by promoting locally with the entire cast.

      1. I know, boring as hell. All the characters are not even interesting to watch, so typically boring. HK ratings really are crazy viewers or insider’s job? haha

  5. I stopped watching the international version after Ep1! Seriously scratching my head, wondering why it’s got such a high rating.

  6. I like it. Even though its cliche probably because its a new pairing.

  7. Is this drama repeat? Its shown before. Is TVB no more good show? Why show it again?

    1. No, this drama was warehoused last year… only shown TVB International. Hong Kong didnt see it , until now.

      1. I thought HK is the first to see. Why so out dated? So funny?

      2. Ask the TVB people, their the ones who did this plan.

  8. What is people on about?! I love this series! I am so glad it is getting high rating. I hope keeps going up and Michael Tse and Niki Chow finally gets Best actors and actress together. I like how this series is focused a lot on the female friendship and chemistry.

  9. warehoused dramas tend to recieve better ratings…i see…

  10. I already watched it in USA…sorry…no a big fans of Niki and this drama not that interesting…but I love Mandy Wong…she is only in support role…so i skip through to only watch the part has Mandy Wong 🙂

    1. I’m like you, I love Mandy Wong, that’s why I watched this drama.

    1. The drama was never in air in HK…so HK people has not seen it yet…only the oversea people such as US…Malaysia people seem already last year…”why TVB has that arrange”..I don’t know…but TVB usually has one drama per year that in air for oversea before in HK…”to test the market???” anyway…now it is in air in HK.

  11. Yup, don’t understand the high rating either. I find it okay, that’s all. Nothing outstanding. Plot is so, so lame. It feels like there’s only ONE policewoman and ONE reporter in the entire HK as they kept bumming into each other. HK is too dang small.

    1. Men are horny and like guns.

Women like to watch almost all female cast for a change.

      Thats my rotten brain theory.
